REPORT

The 2023 season came to a fitting close at finals night, with a packed out Eynsham social club witnessing another night of great entertainment. Each year finals night seems to get more popular, and it was great to see so many faces in attendance. So, lets see if I can do it justice in my report...
The opening match of the evening was the Supplementary Cup, which was being contested between the Masons Arms 'B' and the White House 'A'. The Mason's were looking to win the trophy for a third year running, whilst the White House were looking to add the cup to their already claimed Section Two title. It was the White House who held their nerve, coming out on top after winning each of the first three legs to claim the trophy. The Mason's were unfortunately without a couple of regular players for this final and will no doubt be wondering if things would have been different had they been at full strength. I'm sure they will come back next year to try and regain the tropy which they have called their own in recent years. As for the White House, they have had a fantastic first year in our league and we look forward to seeing if they can repeat things next year. Well done lads.

Next up was the Fours Competition Final, which was between fours from the Three Pigeons and Charbury SSC. On paper, this looked like it would be a very close match and I had no idea which way it would go. However, the match turned out to be a one sided affair, with the Three Pigeons side producing a strong performance by setting 14 dolls in both the opening two legs, which proved to be enough as Charlbury failed in their attempts to chase the total down. So, congatulations go to the Three Pigeons side, who retained the trophy after winning it last year. Well done team, a well deserved win.

The next match was the Triples Competition Final, which was being contested between Section One side the George & Dragon and Premier side the White House 'B'. It looked again that it would be a tight match, and this time that was the case as a deciding leg was required to see who claimed the win. The White House triple took the opening leg to take an early lead, only for the George triple to hit back in the second leg to level the scores. The White House set in the last leg shootout, but could only muster a total of 8 dolls. This total didn't look like being enough, and this was proved after the George's anchorman Dave Gardiner knocked off the three dolls required to claim the victory. An impressive victory for the George triple, who added the Triples trophy to the Section One title which they had already claimed. As for the White House triple, they finished runners up for the second year running so will no doubt want to finally claim the trophy next year.
It was then time for the Sixers Cup. It would have been hard pressed to match last years event, which for those that were there was the greatest exhibition of throwing many have ever seen (There were seven sixes in last years event, which included four sixes in a row). This years event was a very even contest, with all six players still in contention after four legs. It was Roger Goodall who set the total target, hitting a maximum in the final leg (to go with another maximum which he hit in the third leg) to set the clubhouse total of 20 dolls. This shot in turn eliminated half the field, meaning it was down to either Steve England or Charlie Buckingham to match the 20 doll target. Unfortunately for Steve, he had his worst leg of the event to finish on a score of 18 dolls. This left Charlie as the only player who could match Roger's total. Needing a five to tie, Charlie missed his first stick, but then knocked off his next four, meaning it went down to the final stick of the event. Unfortunately for Charlie, this last stick was just under, meaning that he finished one short in his chase. This resulted in Roger being named the winner, with Charlie claiming the runners-up prize. Another great event, which is fast becoming the highlight of finals night. Well done to Roger, who claimed top spot for the second year running, and well done to Charlie and all the other competitors for great efforts.
A new finals night event was next up, with the Pairs Competiton Semi-Finals taking centre stage. We were holding the semi-finals on finals night due to having so many entries in the competition this year, which is obviously very pleasing. The first semi-final was between pairs from the Masons Arms 'A' and the Three Pigeons. The Mason's pair set decent totals in both the opening two legs, but fantastic throwing again from Roger Goodall meant that the Pigeons anchorman Neil Lyon just had to mop up the legs to secure a place in the final. The second semi-final saw a pairs from Charlbury SSC and Eynsham SSC 'A' face each other. Like the first semi-final, this was decided in two legs, with the Eynsham pair doing enough to claim the win and move into the final.

It was then time for the Singles Competition Semi-Finals, with four hopeful players players looking to advance into the final. The first match was an all White House 'B' affair, with teammates Dick Walsh & Barry Townsend facing off against each other. Barry easily claimed the opening leg, and looked like a dead cert to win the match following Dick's set of two dolls in the second leg. However, Barry could only tie the leg, meaning a last leg decider was needed. Dick set three in this last leg, which Barry managed to tie with sticks to spare meaning that he advanced to the final. The second semi-final was between Lee Thompson & current World Champion Rob Bradford. This was an excellent match, with the crowd treated to some great throwing. Lee set a four in the opening leg, which was matched by Rob. Lee then set a five in the second leg, which was again matched by Rob. So, another last leg decider was required. After winning the toss, Lee caught us all out by putting Rob into to bat. Rob came back with a four, which put him in pole position to win. However, Lee produced a brilliant throw, hitting a five to claim the leg and win the match. It was great to watch, well done to both players.

Next up was the Knockout Cup Final. This was contested between Charlbury SSC and Eynsham SSC 'A', which again looked too close to call. And it certainly was close. The first two legs were shared leg-a-leg, which included a maximum by Steve England in the second leg for Charlbury. Eynsham ran out easy winners in the third leg after setting an imposing total of 23 dolls. The pressure was on Charlbury to level the match, and they looked on course to do this after being on 19 dolls with two throwers remaining. However, they finished on 21 dolls due to a couple of low scores from their last two throwers, which left the door ajar for Eynsham. Knowing that they needed a good start, they got what they needed after a five from second thrower Marcus Reading. With two throwers remaining, Eynsham required seven to tie, eight to win. A five from Martin Herbert left anchorman Keith Powell needing three for the match. Keith held his nerve and delighted his home fans by hitting the three with a stick in hand to win the match for his side, which meant that Eynsham completed a league & cup double. A great match, and praise must go to both sides on their performances this year.

The penultimate match of the night was the Pairs Competition Final. After coming through their respective semi-finals earlier in the evening, it was left to the pairs from the Three Pigeons and Eynsham SSC 'A' to face off in the final. The Three Pigeons pair of Roger Goodall & Neil Lyon took the opening leg after the Eynsham pair of Keith Powell & Mark Revill could only set four dolls. A better set of six dolls by Eynsham made the second leg interesting, however Roger hit his third maximum of the evening to leave his partner Neil just the one doll to win, which he obviously managed. Congratulations to Roger & Neil, who are a mighty pair and will take some beating if they continue playing together. This was the fourth time which Roger has had his name on the Pairs trophy, which will take some beating.

The evenings entertainment concluded as always with the Singles Competition Final, which was contested between Barry Townsend of the White House 'B' and Lee Thompson from the the White Hart. Having won through tough semi-finals, it was a test of mental strength for both players to go out and perform again. Barry won the toss and set in the first leg and posted a score of three dolls. This proved just enough, with Lee coming in with a two. It was Lee's turn to set in the second leg, and he put down a marker of four dolls. However, this effort proved in vain as Barry hit a five to take the leg and the match, which in turn earned him the Singles trophy for the first time. A deserved winner, with Barry having another exceptional year. And commiserations to Lee, who put up a valiant effort.
The only other item to be decided was that of the Performance of the Night. A quick chat between the committee was had, who unanimously decided that there was a clear winner of this award. It went to Roger Goodall, who performed at the highest level throughout the evening. He helped win the Fours & Pairs winners trophies, and backed it up by retaining the Sixers cup, hitting three maximums throughout the evening. Excellent throwing Roger, very well done.

And that's your lot!!
I hope that everyone enjoyed the evening

The committee would like to offer our special thanks to:

- The staff at Eynsham SSC for looking after us and keeping the beer flowing

REPORT

This week's action focused on the Supplementary Cup quarter finals, although there was the small matter of a one final match in the Premier to decide the destination of the league title....
Premier:
The final few days of the Premier schedule saw three sides still in with a chance of winning the title. Eynsham SSC 'A' held the lead, with Charlbury SSC close behind with games in hand. The Masons Arms 'A' were sitting just behind and were hopeful of some slip ups by the above sides to pip them to the post. The action began on the Tuesday, with Charlbury hosting Enstone SSC 'B'. It was not the start to the week which Charlbury were hoping for as they found Enstone in inspired form. Enstone recorded their best week of the season in hitting 92 dolls over the five legs to inflict a 7-3 defeat over Charlbury. Ian Widdows had his best week for Enstone by far as he hit 17 dolls, whilst Trevor Dyer recorded his first six of the season on his way to 16 dolls. The action then moved onto Thursday evening, where the Masons Arms 'A' hosted Charlbury. Both teams knew that only a big win would keep alive their title hopes, but it wasn't to work out that way. Charlbury started well and moved into a 6-0 lead after three legs, but the Mason's hit back to claim a win and a drawn leg, meaning that the match ended in a 7-3 away win for Charlbury. This result left Eynsham SSC 'A' with a three point lead going into Sunday's final win or bust match against Charlbury. Needing just four points to claim the title, Eynsham produced their best match of the season to win the opening four legs and claim victory. Charlbury did manage to tie the final leg to prevent the whitewash, but the damage had already been done. It was a fine performance by the Eynsham side, hitting 89 dolls in the match, with the highlight being the third leg when Graham Reading & Mark Revill both hit maximums. This capped off a great season for Eynsham, and they have more than deserved the title. As for the other Premier match played this week, Enstone SSC 'B' played out a 5-5 draw at home against the White House 'B'. It went to a last leg decider, which Enstone won with ease to claim the match draw. Rob Bradford ended his league campaign in style for Enstone, hitting a maximum on his way to a 25 doll haul.
Supplementary Cup:
There were a couple of shock results in the quarter finals, none more so than Section One winners the George & Dragon suffering a surprise 6-0 defeat at Section Two side Eynsham SSC 'B'. The George never got started, although they were up against it as the Eynsham side all played well with every player adding to the score in each throw taken. There was another gaintkilling with Section Two the White House 'A' defeating Section One the Three Horseshoes 6-0 away from home. The first two legs were won with ease, before a narrow win in the third leg saw the White House side into the Semi Finals. Chadlington SSC produced a good team performance away from home to ease past Middle Barton SSC 7-1, which was greatly assisted by Drew Duncan's 5,5,4 in the first three legs and also Barry Denvir's 5 in the third leg. The other quarter final saw the Masons Arms 'B' secure a 7-1 away win over the Cinnamon Stick to keep alive their hopes of winning the cup for a third year running. Andy Mott was the Mason's star player with scores of 4,4,3,4 over the four legs played. Well done all.

REPORT

With this being the final week of league action for most teams, it was time to crown our next champions, although there is still one league winners trophy up for grabs...
Section One:
The title race finally came to a close this week, the the George & Dragon managing to get over the line and claim the trophy after picking up impressive wins in their scheduled and rearranged fixtures. On the Thursday they recorded a crucial 8-2 away win at Middle Barton SSC which kept the title in their own hands. After having a bit of a wobble in recent weeks, they might have been worried after losing the opening leg of the match, but they hit back with some good scores to run out clear winners. The George then played their rearranged fixture on the Friday evening, knowing that just a narrow win would be enough for them to win the league. They managed to secure an 8-2 home win over Chadlington SSC, meaning that they were crowned Section One Winners. The Masons Arms 'B' ended their league campaign by picking up a narrow 7-3 home win over the Oxford Yeoman 'B', whilst Enstone SSC 'A' also finished with a victory, winning a last leg decider away at the Three Horseshoes to secure a 6-4 win and finish on a high note.
Premier:
With some fixtures still outstanding, the destination of the title wasn't going to be decided this week. That's not to say that the action that did take place wasn't interesting, with there being two high class matches played. The Three Pigeons claimed an impressive 7-3 home win over the White House 'B', securing the points after claiming a last leg decider. Even though the Pigeons weren't at full strength, they moved into a 5-1 lead after three legs. Although the White House won leg four, it was the Pigeons who eased past the White House's set of 18 dolls in the final leg to end their campaign with a good win. Neil Lyon was on mighty form yet again for the Pigeons, hitting 24 dolls which included maximums in the first & last legs. Neil was backed up well by Ray & Wayne Townsend in the match, who both had good nights and hit big scores at important times. In the other fixture, Enstone SSC 'B hosted the White Hart, and it was another match which needed a last leg shootout. Enstone started strongly by winning the first two legs, before the White Hart hit back to win legs three & four to level the match a 4-4. Enstone set a good score of 19 in this last leg, but the White Hart anchorman Lee Thompson hit the three required to tie the leg and in turn tie the match at 5-5.
Section Two:
Although it took until the last game of the season, Stonesfield SSC 'A' finally managed to secure a league victory after winning 10-0 at home over the Cinnamon Stick. It always pains me to see a league table which has a team without something positive in their wins column, so it was pleasing to see Stoney get this win. They've come close to winning many matches this year, so I'm sure they will feel that they were owed this win. In the sections other fixture, newly crowned champions the White House 'A' ended with a close 7-3 win over Stonesfield SSC 'B'. The match result was decided after three legs, with the White House winning these opening legs. However, Stoney kept going and managed to pick up some points in the final two legs to make the scoreline look more respectful. Wayne Gray ended the season well for the White House with 16 dolls, which secured his position as Section Two top doll scorer. Good work fella.

REPORT

To say that the final days of the league format of the 2023 season are going to be interesting would be an understatement, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Premier & Section One titles go down to the final legs to decide who is crowned the winners. However, this week saw the destination of the first silverware of the season decided....
Section Two:
And that destination goes to the White House 'A', who wrapped up the Section Two title this week after securing an 8-2 away win over Stonesfield SSC 'A'. It's been a great debut season for the team, with good results matching the enthusiasm which they have shown. I'm sure they will already be looking forward to returning next year and improving again. The Red Lion secured a second place finish this year after ending their league campaign with a 10-0 away win over the Cinnamon Stick. The Lion started the season slowly, which I'm sure they regret now as they have got better as the season has gone on and shown that they can challenge for the title. In the other fixture in the section saw another away win, with Stonesfield SSC 'B' winning 8-2 at Eynsham SSC 'B'. Both sides have done well this year, and we hope that they we will see them back next year.
Section One:
The Oxford Yeoman 'A' took over at the top of the table this week after picking up an impressive 8-2 away win over the Masons Arms 'B'. With previous leaders the George & Dragon not playing, it gave the Yeoman the chance to put some pressure on them, and they did exactly that. It was another strong performance by the Yeoman, with only one blob on the card (step forward Mr French). If they can claim a big win in their final match this week then they are more than in with a chance of winning the title. In the sections other match, The Oxford Yeoman 'A' claimed the weeks only home victory after defeating the Three Horseshoes 6-4. The Horseshoes won the opening two legs to go 4-0 up before the Yeoman hit back to win the remaining three legs and claim the match win. Ray Barson continued his great season for the Yeoman by hitting 18 dolls.

Premier:
Eynsham SSC 'A' took a big step towards claiming their first Premier title after claiming a narrow 6-4 away win over the White House 'B'. It was a match that swung one way and then the other, with the White House letting Eynsham off the hook in leg four by only drawing the leg after a poor Eynsham set, before Enysham hit back in the last leg to claim the match win. The match highlight came in the opening leg, with Eynsham's final two throwers Keith Powell & Mark Revill hitting nine between them to claim a tied leg. Dick Walsh was on good form with 20 dolls for the White House. In the other match, the Masons Arms 'A' just about kept their title chances alive by defeating the White Hart 6-4. It was a very close match, which went down to a last leg decider. The Mason's held their nerve in this last leg to claim the match win. Charlie Buckingham hit the leagues only maximum in the match but it was Neil Pratley who top scored, hitting 19 dolls.

So, we move into the final days of the season. I'm off work on Thursday this week, so can you all send me a picture of the cards as soon as the games have finished so that I can publish the results before I go to bed.Good luck all

REPORT

I'm back from my hols and trying to get everything back up to date as soon as possible - sorry for the slight delay! There were certainly some interesting results whilst I was away!
Premier:
A couple of postponements in the top section, meaning that the only sides in action were Eynsham SSC 'A' & the Three Pigeons, who played their scheduled fixture plus their rearranged fixture from earlier in the season, both on the same night. Both matches were of an expected high standard. The Pigeons managed to inflict the first defeat of the season on the Eynsham side in the first match, but Eynsham hit back in the second match to keep their title challenge very much alive. There was some good scoring on both sides, with Ray Townsend, Neil Lyon & Roger Goodall all hitting maximums for the Pigeons over the two matches. The only disappointment was that Neil only managed 19 dolls in one of the matches, which brought to an end his incredible run of hitting 20+ scores in every match so far this season. I was certain he would get a clean sweep of 20+ scores in what has been a superhuman effort this year. There's always next season Neil!
Section One:
To say things are hotting up at the top of Section One would be an understatement. The Oxford Yeoman 'A' produced their best performance of the season to defeat the George & Dragon 9-1 to pile on the pressure on their opponents at the top of the table. The George hold a six point lead going with two matches to play, so every leg & doll could be vital from this point onwards. The Three Horseshoes remain in the hunt after picking up a 6-4 home win over the Masons Arms 'B'. It was a strangely low scoring match, but the Horseshoes hit the dolls that mattered to secure the important win. In the sections other match, local rivals Chadlington SSC hosted Enstone SSC 'A', and the sides shared the spoils with a 5-5 draw. The match went to a last leg decider, which ended in a tied leg meaning that the match ended in the draw.
Section Two:
The White House 'A' now have one hand on the Section Two trophy after defeating challengers Eynsham SSC 'B' 10-0 at home. Eynsham knew that they needed a big win to move into contention, but they were unable to hit the scores required and allowed the White House side to claim a comfortable win. The Red Lion appear to be the only side to can stop the White House now, and after winning 7-3 at home over Stonesfield SSC 'A' they sit just three points behind, although they have played one game more. Can they claim a big victory in their final match to put the pressure on? Time will tell!

Cheers all

REPORT

Time has got the better of me I'm afraid, so only a brief report on a few of the points of note. There were thirteen matches played last week, so if I did my normal report I'll certainly miss my flight! Thanks to everyone for getting the cards to me nice and early. I've managed to get all the stats up to date, meaning that I can sip my mojito without worrying that I'm behind on things!
So those points of note I mentioned. In no particular order, they are:

- Neil Lyon's excellent season - another big score this week (24 dolls). Neil is yet to score under 20 this season in what has been an incredible display of doll hitting

- Enstone SSC 'A', who picked up two wins this week. In their second fixture, they defeated leaders the George & Dragon 7-3 in what was by far their best performance of the season. Chris Taylor (19 dolls), Martin Blake (15 dolls), John Blake (12 dolls) & John Taylor (9 dolls) all had their best returns of the season so far in this fixture - very well done!

- Charlbury SSC - They also played two matches, winning them both to move up to second in the Premier Section and right into the mix for the title

- Lee Thompson - playing as the anchorman for the White Hart, Lee became the first player this season to hit a maximum to draw a leg - good shooting Lee, he got them when he needed them!

- The curse of topping the table - Premier leaders the Masons Arms 'A' & Section One leaders the George & Dragon are both having a wobble, meaning that the race for those top spots come the end of the season is wide open, with lots of teams still in with a shout. It's nearly squeaky bum time....

- Sometimes the handicap system works perfectly - there were six Section One matches played, all of which went down to a last leg decider. You see, I do get things right.... most of the time!

That's your lot, I must finish packing. Good luck to those playing in the pairs & in league action the following week. I'm back on the 13th August, so get those cards from 10th to me as soon as possible so that I'll have something to do whilst admiring my tan.

REPORT

My groan last week over the late cards must have hit home, as all the cards arrived nice and early this week. Thank you captains, lets keep it up please. It's very important that this coming weeks cards are with me as soon as possible so that I can get everything up to date before my holiday.

Premier:
They have been trying hard since the season started, and finally the White Hart recorded their first win of the season after defeating the White House  'B' 6-4 at home. They must enjoy playing the White House as in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, they hit 71 dolls and were unlucky to lose 6-4. This week, they hit 71 dolls again but managed to claim the victory they deserved. It was a good team effort by the White Hart, no more so than anchorman Lee Thompson, who hit the winning dolls in each of the first three legs to help his side move into a 6-0 lead. The White House managed to keep plugging away and took the final two legs to at least leave with some points. Eynsham SSC 'A' continued their good run of results after picking up a narrow 7-3 away win over Enstone SSC 'B'. Both sides went into the match with one eye on closing the gap at the top of the table, so it was a crucial fixture. The score was 5-3 to Eynsham going into the vital last leg. It was Eynsham who did the business in this last to claim an important win. Although he was on the losing side, Enstone's Rob Bradford had his best night of the season so far after hitting 23 dolls, which included back to back maximums in legs four & five. With Eynsham winning, the attention turned to leaders the Masons Arms 'A', who hosted the Three Pigeons. And what a match it was, with it being a feast of dolls. The sides shared 186 dolls, which is the highest match total of the season so far. It was a a mighty performance by the Masons, who averaged just over 22 dolls across the five legs. With so many dolls being hit, it wasn't surprising that there were some personal best scores by some players. Dean Harris was the stand out performer after hitting 21 dolls, which included his first six of the season, whilst teammate Tim Newbold also had his best night with 12 dolls from the four legs he played in. As for the Pigeons, Neil Lyon came in with another excellent score of 23 dolls (including a six), whilst Graham Nowlan had his best night so far with 15 dolls. It seems like whoever the Pigeons have played recently, they have upped their game and hit big dolls. I almost feel sorry for them. Almost.... Great hitting guys, well played.
Section Two:

To say the matches in Section Two were close is an understatement as both matches ended in 5-5 draws, and in the matches, both sides hit exactly the same amount of dolls! In the Stoney derby, the 'A' side were up against it as they could only field five players in their match against the 'B' side. It was the 'B' side who were leading 5-3 going into the last leg, and after the 'A' side could only set 7 dolls they would have thought that they could claim the match win. However, after some low scores and a couple of blobs, they fell short in their chase meaning that the match ended in a draw. Only having five players seemed to inspire some of the 'A' side players, as three of the side had their best night of the season so far. Jim Wagerfield, Simon Hatley & Ben Tomlin all performed well to help their side claim the draw. In the other match in the section, Eynsham SSC 'B' lost ground in the title race after dropping points against bottom side the Cinnamon Stick. They moved 5-1 ahead after three legs and would have been thinking about claiming a big points tally, however the Cinnamon Stick showed how dangerous a side they can be to hit back and win the final two legs to share the points. It was the Cinnamon Sticks best performance of the season so far and showed the potential that they have to win any match that they play in. Can they replicate this performance and get themselves off the bottom of the table? Who knows, but it will be interesting to see!

Section One:

This is turning out to be the predicted battle royal for the title, with five teams forming a chasing pack who are hunting down the George & Dragon in the race for the title. This week it was the Oxford Yeoman 'B' who inflicted more woe on the George & Dragon after defeating them 8-2. It was another strange performance by the George, with the Yeoman moving 8-0 ahead before the George finally hit some dolls to take the final leg. It was a solid team effort by the Yeoman with each player hitting important dolls at crucial times. With the George wobbling again, the opportunity was there for the mentioned chasing pack to close the gap. Some sides did this, whilst others didn't! The big winners were Middle Barton SSC, who claimed the week's only 10-0 clean sweep after defeating an under strength Three Horseshoes at home. Even if the Horseshoes would have been at full strength they would have been up against it, as the Barton side produced their best performance of the season so far to rack up the big win. Chris Stewart was on fine form for them from his lead off position in hitting 17 dolls, whilst Rob Stillman & Zoe Webb also had their best nights so far. They are a dangerous side, and if they can put a run of performances together like this one expect the Barton side to be in the mix come the end of the season. The Oxford Yeoman 'A' kept in touch with the leaders after winning 8-2 at home over Enstone SSC 'A'. It was a good team effort by the Yeoman side, with only one blob on the card meaning that there was only one player adding funds to the blob pot (The blobinator strikes again). Like the previously mentioned Barton side, if the Yeoman can keep performing well they could have an outside chance of closing the gap at the top of the table. In the final match, Chadlington SSC moved into second place in the table dispite going down to a 6-4 home defeat against the Masons Arms 'B'. Captain Dan Cleevely did his best to get his Chadlington side a win with 16 dolls, but it was the Masons who held their nerve to get a draw in the last leg decider to claim the match win. Steve Mott had his best night of the season so far for the Masons, hitting 17 dolls which proved vital in getting the match win.
Thats my work done this week. Lots of personal best scores this week, and lots of very close matches, which is what we want to see and proves what a good league we have. As previously mentioned, get those cards to me as soon as possible this week so that I can fit in getting the website up to date before I pack my speedoes & flip flops and head off into the sunshine! Cheers all

REPORT

Well, it's taken until the second half of the season for me to have a moan about late cards. This week has not been good enough from certain captains/teams!

Chadlington SSC v Middle Barton SSC - From week 10, card only received on Weds

Three Pigeons v White Hart - Still no card received
Middle Barton SSC v Oxford Yeoman 'A' - Card only received on Weds so too late to make the report

Three Horseshoes v Chadlington SSC - No card yet, or even a picture - unacceptable

Let me remind everyone, it is printed on the card that "The winning team to send this result card in within 4 days". I will also point you in the direction of rules 10, 11 & 21. I did have the website up to date, but that's not happening now!

Now that I've named and shamed, I'll get on with the report..

Section Two:

Just the one game to report on, and this saw the Red Lion continue their recent good form to keep the pressure on at the top of the table by recording an 8-2 home win over Stonesfield SSC 'B'. It was a cagey start to the match, with Stoney taking the opening leg by just a single doll, before the Red Lion returned the favour by nicking the second leg by just a doll. After this, the Lion upped the ante and ran out comfortable winners in the remaining legs to claim what could be an important win. Mark Finch was the top scorer for the Lion with 14 dolls.

Section One:
The performance of the week was no doubt by Enstone SSC 'A', who produced their best effort of the season by far in claiming a 10-0 away win over the Oxford Yeoman 'B'. They racked up 76 dolls on the night, which was 19 dolls more than their previous highest weekly total. Captain Steve Ducker continued his recent fine form by hitting 19 dolls, but it was in whole a great team effort, which included Pete Cox having his best week of the season so far. Dave Behan (17 dolls) & Ray Barson (16 dolls) were also on good form for the Yeoman, but even they could prevent the clean sweep defeat. The George & Dragon had another wobble this week, which required them to win the final leg to secure a 5-5 draw against the Masons Arms 'A'. A draw was certainly a fair result as both sides hit 60 dolls each, so there really was nothing between them. Nigel King top scored with 19 dolls, which included a six in the fourth leg, whilst the opening two throwers for the Masons (Mark Bennett & Tom O'Neill) both hit 14 dolls to help get their side off to solid starts in each leg.
Premier:
Fresh from their first defeat of the season last week, the Masons Arms 'A' tasted defeat again against an Eynsham SSC 'A' side who are moving themselves into contention for a late push to claim the league title. Eynsham seemed to make home advantage pay, and were leading 6-2 going into the final leg before the Masons produced the best leg of the match, posting 23 dolls to take the leg and what could turn out to be a massive 2 points and reduced the margain of defeat to just 6-4. Keith Powell was top scorer for Eynsham with 20 dolls. In the reports last match, there was a hard earned 5-5 draw between the White House 'B' & Charlbury SSC. The White House started strongly and moved 4-0 ahead, before Charlbury hit back to give themselves a chance of the draw. Going into the last leg decider, the White House held a 5-3 lead, but it was Charlbury who did the business in this final leg to claim a share of the spoils.
If you haven't already read my message on the home page about the upcoming Pairs competition, please have a read and give me plenty of notice if there are any changes which need to be made. One final word from me this week...........CARDS!!!!

REPORT

It was a big week as we moved into the second half of the season, with some shock results and a couple of teams tasting defeat for the first time this season.

Premier:
Leaders the Masons Arms 'A' suffered their first defeat in a surprise 8-2 home loss against Enstone SSC 'B'. The Mason's were off the pace in the opening three legs and quickly fell 6-0 behind, before managing to salvage what could be some important points by drawing the final two legs. Despite the heavy loss, Ray Grant continued his recent return to form with 17 dolls, which was matched by Charlie Buckingham, who hit his first maximum of the season. As for Enstone, their big hitters all came in with solid performances, but their victory was due to season best scores by Nathan Wallington (16 dolls) & Matty Molyneux (11 dolls). Enstone's win opened the door for Eynsham SSC 'A' to close the gap at the top of the table, and they obliged by claiming an 8-2 away win over local rivals the White Hart. The match was closer than the scoreline suggests, with just a couple of dolls separating the sides in all but one of the legs. Considering Eynsham are a side that usually make multiple changes throughout a match, they only made minimal changes this week and that seemed to make the difference. There was a shock result in the Premier's other fixture between Charlbury SSC and the Three Pigeons. It was a fantastic match, with the sides sharing 180 dolls between them and four different players hitting a maximum. Normally, such a high scoring match ends with the points shared, but not in this case as Charlbury ran out 10-0 winners to claim the home win. I'm sure the Pigeons side will be wondering just how they came away without a point in what was their second successive 10-0 loss.It will have been particularly unfair on the Pigeons star players, who both had excellent nights (Neil Lyon 24 dolls & Roger Goodall 23 dolls). Steve England was Charlbury's top scorer with 23 dolls, although I should also  mention George Williams, who hit his first six of the season in the opening leg and also Dave Prew, who came into the final leg after missing the previous three legs to hit a five. Well done to both sides.

Section Two:
The White House 'A'  extended their lead at the top of the table after claiming the weeks second clean sweep win by defeating the Cinnamon Stick 10-0 at home. It wasn't the White House's best performance, but they did enough each leg to secure the big win to strengthen their claim as title favourites, whilst the Cinnamon Stick remain stuck at the bottom. The two sides chasing the White House faced each other in the sections other game, as Eynsham SSC 'B' hosted the Red Lion. As predicted, it was a very close fixture, with both sides hitting the same amount of dolls in the match. Their were two drawn legs plus a win each across the first four legs, meaning that the match went to a last leg decider. It was the Red Lion that held their nerve to take this last leg and in turn claim a 6-4 away win, which was Eynsham's first defeat of the season. Sean Osgathorp was the match top scorer with a seasons best 13 dolls for the Lion. Can either side put a strong run together to test the nerves of the White House? Watch this space to find out!
Section One:
The top two sides in the section faced each other this week, with the George & Dragon hosting the Three Horseshoes in a match that the Horseshoes couldn't really afford to lose. The first three legs were tight, with the 'Shoes taking a 4-2 lead after winning legs by just a single doll. The match turned in the fourth leg, with the George having a poor leg to allow the 'Shoes to move 6-2 ahead. The final leg ended in a draw, meaning that the 'Shoes claimed a 7-3 win and closed the gap at the top of the table. The other two matches to report on (card not yet received from the other match) both went to last leg deciders, which is what we want to see! The was a Freeland derby between the Oxford Yeoman A & B in a match that swung one way and then very much the other. The B side won the opening two legs to move 4-0 ahead, before the A side hit back to win the remaining three legs to claim the win and bragging rights in the bar afterwards. Ray Barson rolled back the years to top score for the B side with 18 dolls, whilst the A side's Henry Smith had his best week of the season so far with 15 dolls, which included a very important 5 in that deciding leg. In the final match, Enstone SSC 'A' hosted the Masons Arms 'B' in another close fixture. The scores were tied at 4-4 going into the final leg, but it was the Mason's who produced a solid last leg to claim the 6-4 victory. Captain Mark Bennett made a big difference in this final leg. After selecting himself for the first time in the match, Mark came in with a 5 from the lead off position to set his side on the path to victory. Andy Mott backed up his good performance in the last round of fixtures with 16 dolls for the Masons.
Thats it for this week. Make sure you keep an eye on the home page over the next week as there will be some important information being published about the upcoming Pairs competition, plus a couple of other announcements which need reading.
Good luck this week all, thanks.

DARREN GRANT (WHITE HOUSE 'B')

REPORT

As predicted, it was a night of thrills and spills for the this years Singles Competition. There were some big players who exited the competition, which always happens as there are always some shocks. I would say that out of the four venues, only one 'favourite' made it through to finals night. I will refrain from doing full reports on all the matches, but from looking at the scoresheets I'll pick out a couple of highlights.

Venue One: George & Dragon.

First Round:

Five out of the eight matches went to a third leg in a very tight round of fixtures. The second match saw Darren Grant hit the evenings only maximum on his way to defeating home favourite Dave Gardiner, whilst fellow White House 'B' teammate Terry Stuart hit a two to win his 3 stick playoff against Aldofo Kerpache. It was a family affair as Graham Reading played Marcus Reading, with Marcus winning the last leg decider. Marcus hit a five in the second leg, but it really should have been the evenings second maximum after a big nick of the doll with his fifth stick, but the dam doll refused to fall off! Darren Turner & Keith Powell had the rounds closest match, which needed two rounds of 1 stick madness before Keith made it through.

Quarter Finals:

Not much to say about this round as the winners advanced through without trouble.

Semi Finals & Final:

It was an all White House 'B' affair in the first Semi, as Darren Grant played Terry Stuart. Both players had looked in good form so far, but it was Terry that just edged it to move to the final, although Darren suffered the same fate as Marcus from earlier in evening with by nicking the doll without it coming off! The second Semi was the venue's standout match, as old friends/rivals Dick Walsh & Keith Powell faced each other. A set of 4 was tied, then a set of 5 was also tied, meaning a last leg decider was required. Dick set 4 in this leg, which proved just enough to win. The Final, between Terry & Dick, was also a very tight match, and it needed a 3 sticker to decide the winner. Former Singles Winner Dick showed his Singles competition pedigree but hitting 3 out of 3 in this decider, which Terry couldn't get.

Venue Two: Three Horseshoes

First Round:

Just down the road in Long Hanborough, the Three Horseshoes was the second venue. There was an early shock in the second match, as Phil Austin, fresh from reaching the Oxford Leagues Singles Semi Finals the night before, went out in two straight legs to an excellent display by Neil Pratley. Lee Gardiner claimed bragging rights after defeating his George & Dragon teammate Nigel King, whilst there was a high quality match between Mark Revill & Lee Hazell, which Rev took on the last leg. The highlight of the round was almost a massive shock, as Barry Townsend (Premier - White House 'B') faced off against Mark Finch (Section Two - Red Lion). Going into the final leg, Barry was set 4 dolls in a leg which he needed to win. He hit a 5, which took the match to 3 sticks. Mark hit a 2, which Barry managed to match, sending it to a 1 stick shoot out. Unfortunately for him, Mark missed and Barry hit to advance to the next round.
Quarter Finals:
Neil Pratley continued his good form in his quarter final match against home thrower Alex Chamberlain by winning through after a 3 sticker to take his place in the Semi Finals. Steve Rogers also won his match on 3 sticks, defeating Spencer Buckingham in a close match.

Semi Finals & Final:
All these three matches were surprisingly straight forward 2-0 wins. The best players on the night faced each other in the Final, which was between Neil Pratley & Barry Townsend. It was Barry that held his nerve and advanced through to Finals Night.

Venue Three: Eynsham SSC

First Round:
This was a very strong looking venue, and there was certainly a shock or two! The first match of the night went to a 3 sticker between Roger Goodall & Alan Major, which Roger won after hitting 3 out of 3. Steve McAteer & Steve England faced each other in a battle of the big guns, with the latter hitting a couple of 4's to claim the win. Lucy Davies nearly claimed the scalp of Lee Thompson, with Lee needing a 3 sticker to win through. The big shock of the round saw Wayne Townsend defeat Charlie Buckingham in the last leg decider. Charlie has regularly made it through to Finals Night, and won the event in 2017, so it was a surprise to see him exit in the first round.

Quarter Finals:

Wow, what a set of close matches! Three out of the four Quarter Finals went to 3 sticks in a very tight set of matches, with the othe match going to a last leg decider! The opening match saw Roger Goodall hit 3 out of 3 for the second time of the evening as he squeezed through against Alan Stevens. The second match saw Steve Ducker hit a 5 to tie the last leg in his match against Ian Widdows, which was enough to take him through. Lee Thompson then defeated Steve England in their 3 sticker, before finally Wayne Townsend squeezed through after a 1 stick shoot out in his match with Mark Lacey. It looked like it was compelling veiwing, well done to all those who were involved.
Semi Finals & Final:
There was a huge shock in the first Semi Final as Steve Ducker defeated Roger Goodall to take his place in the venue final. Roger's form has been exceptional in recent weeks, but it was Steve who produced some magic to win in two straight legs. In the other Semi, Lee Thompson just edged it over Wayne Townsend, needing a 3 stick playoff to win through. Lee managed to continue his good form in the Final, defeating Steve 2-0 to get through to Finals and have a crack at winning the trophy he last won in 2007.

Venue Four: White Hart

First Round:

There was a disappointing four no shows at this (Grrrrrr), but it didn't stop the action being good. The First round was relatively straight forward, with 'favourites' on paper all winning through their matches to take their places in the Quarter Finals.

Quarter Finals:

The action hotted up in this round, and there was very nearly a huge upset. Rob Bradford squeezed through in his match against Raymondo Barson, but only after a 1 stick shoot out! With the match tied after three legs, Ray set a 2 in the 3 sticker, which Rob managed to tie. Ray then missed his 1 stick attempt, with Rob hitting to sneak through. Mick Phipps needed a 3 stick playoff to win his match against Kevin Johnson, whilst Kevin's teammates Ray Grant & Dean Harris faired better by winning their matches.
Semi Finals & Final:
The two Semi Finals were straight forward 2-0 wins for both Ray Grant & Rob Bradford, beating Mick Phipps & Henry Johnson respectivlely, which set things up for the final. The crowd must have enjoyed the final as it went down to 3 sticks, with Rob again just doing enough to squeeze through. Could this be the year which Rob adds the Wychwood Singles trophy to his portfolio? I guess we will have to wait and see later in the year.

Thanks to everyone who took part. That was the largest number of entries I've ever seen (75 of you!) so well done all. As for the Final four players, that's as strong as a line up as I can remember. I can't wait to see who comes out on top.

It would be wrong of me not to mention that there was also a league match which took place, which resulted in a very important 10-0 away win for Eynsham SSC 'B' over the Cinnamon Stick. It's going to be a fight to the finish between Eynsham & the White House for the Section Two title, so big wins like this could turn out to be crucial. Lee Parsons & John Ayres were on fine form for Eynsham, both hitting 14 dolls to help claim the victory.

All done - I'm exhausted now! Back to league action this week. There are a couple of teams that send the cards in a little late, so just a friendly nudge to get them in asap please. Cheers.

REPORT

Finally I have everything bang up to date, meaning that just this report to do then I can put my feet up for a couple of days. Until the madness of publishing the Singles results this coming week!
Section One:
It was a massive scoring week for the George & Dragon this week as they played their scheduled fixture plus a rearranged fixture from earlier in the season. They finished their week's work with a nearly perfect 19 points, which has extended their lead at the top of the table. They hosted Middle Barton SSC in their first fixture and won that 9-1, before hosting Enstone SSC 'A' on the following evening and won that match 10-0. It must be noted that Enstone played the match with only five players, so praise is due to them for attending and completing the fixture instead of calling it off. The George's captain Dave Gardiner enjoyed himself, recording a maximum in each match. They are certainly playing well at the moment, but I would suggest that the teams who have played them recently have underperformed, so it will be interesting to see how they go when put under pressure. The Masons Arms 'B' picked up an impressive 6-4 away win over the Oxford Yeoman 'B'. The Mason's had some standout performers in Andy Mott (17 dolls), Hayley Bennett (14 dolls) & Alan Wood (7 dolls), who all had their best nights of the season so far. Well done all. The final fixture in the section saw Chadlington SSC host the Oxford Yeoman 'B', and it went the distance and could have gone either way. With the score tied 4-4, Chadlington set 12 dolls in the final leg. The Yeoman lads looked on track to chase this down as they were on 9 dolls with two players left to throw. However, a couple of blobs saw them stuck on 9 dolls and lthe result ended in a 6-4 home win. I've mentioned before that the Yeoman lads keep me updated on how their matches go, and this one was no exception. The fourth leg saw Kieran 'blobinator' McCall throw a maximum, which was described as an extremely big shock! According the Yeoman's stats geek, Kieran had 13 blobs from 44 legs last season. And true to form, he followed his maximum this week with a blob!! Classic! Captain Sam Walker is trying to claim credit for coaching his players into hitting these recent maximums, but I've heard that his team just think he should keep quiet and get the beers in!
Section Two:
The Cinnamon Stick picked up their first win of the season after claiming a 6-4 home win over Stonesfield SSC 'A'. It went down to a last leg decider, which ended with them winning the leg by just a single doll (unfortunately the card didn't show who set so I can't tell you exactly what happened). Although they claimed the win, the Cinnamon side also claimed an unwanted award of the lowest leg score of the season so far after hitting only 2 dolls in the second leg. At least they put that out of their minds to claim the match win. In the other Section Two match, the White House 'A' extended their lead at the top of the table after claiming a 7-3 away win over Stonesfield SSC 'B'. The first part of the match was close, with the scores tied at 3-3 after three legs. However, the White House finished strongly and won the final two legs to claim the match win. The main talking point coming out of the Stonesfield camp was the newly implemented pinchers rule, which came into place before the action started. Anyone who hits a 5 means that all the other players in the side have to stick a £5 in the pot, and anyone hitting a 6 means it's a £10 from everyone. This was brought into place as no one in the team ever hits a 5, let alone a 6. Guess what? First leg, second thrower Steve Evins knocked off a 5 to build up a nice little pot of money, much to the annoyance of his teammates. However, it was captain Dave Holloway who claimed pinchers, which I'm sure he thanked Steve for making the pot so large!

Premier:
In the top section, the shock result of the week saw the White House 'B' dismantle the Three Pigeons and pick up a clean sweep 10-0 home victory. With the vote of confidence still ringing in his ear, captain Mick Phipps inspired his side to hit 94 dolls (although no maximums) to put an end to their recent losing streak. Terry Stuart was the top scorer for the White House with a fine 20 dolls, but it was the Pigeons' Roger Goodall who was the man of the match with 23 dolls, which included his first maximum of the season in the final leg. There was a closely fought contest between Charlbury SSC & Eynsham SSC 'A'. Charlbury shot out the blocks and won the opening two legs to take a 4-0 lead before Eynsham got into the swing of things to hit back and win the remaining three legs to claim an important 6-4 away win. The deciding leg was very tight though! Eynsham set the nights highest score of 23 dolls, which they must have thought would easily be enough. However, Charlbury were poised to chase this down, scoring 18 dolls from their top four throwers to leave their bottom two just five to draw. However, they failed to do meaning that Eynsham secured the win. In the nights final match, Enstone SSC 'B' lost the opening leg of their match away at the White Hart before hitting back to win all of the remaining legs to claim an 8-2 victory.
Good luck to everyone playing in this week's singles. Who's your money on? Can the recently crowned World Champion do the double? Will Neil Lyon retain his title? Could Roger Goodall match his fantastic league form with a run to Finals Night? Or will the winner come from the chasing pack? Watch this space to find out!

REPORT

For the first time it ages, we managed to get a Thursday night with only a gentle breeze instead of the strong wind which has been around recently. And the scores certainly showed that in this league, good conditions mean dolls for fun!

Section Two:
No bye or friendly in this section this week, so I have all three games to report on (because they also delivered the cards to me on time!). The Red Lion produced their best performance of the season so far by a long way as they claim a big 10-0 home victory over the Cinnamon Stick. They racked up 66 dolls between them (that's without their handicap) in a fantastic team effort in which everyone played their part. They almost kept the dreaded blob off their card, but one snuck in during the final leg. The Lion's first & second throwers (Mark Finch - 15 dolls, Neil Morton - 17 dolls) were on fine form and set the standard, and their teammates followed their lead. Leaders the White House also claimed a 10-0 home win, this time over Stonesfield SSC 'A', to extend their league at the top of table. It was a disappointing night for Stonesfield 'A', who are yet to hit top form yet. I'm sure they will come out fighting soon. The other match in the section was much closer. In fact, in went the distance and needed a last leg decider. This match was between Stonesfield SSC 'B' and Eynsham SSC 'B'. The scores were tied at 4-4 after four very close legs, so it was a case of who would blink first. Stoney set in this last leg, but captain Dave Holloway obviously failed to inspire his side as they only posted a score of 5 dolls. Eynsham were able to easily beat this set to secure an important 6-4 away win and keep up the pressure at the top of the table.

Section One:
Apart from getting pictures of the cards after the matches have finished, I do enjoy receiving a text with some info about the match. This happened last week, when my phone pinged following a text from the Oxford Yeoman 'A''s skipper. He had to tell me about one of his players, Henry Smith. The text said "Henry brought a new set of sticks last week and reckons it's the first time he's thrown sticks that all weighed the same" - He smashed of a maximum with these new sticks in the second leg! He did however throw a blob in the last leg, so I hope he's kept the receipt! The match he was involved in was a tight one as the Yeoman 'A' hosted the Masons Arms 'B'. The Yeoman were ahead 5-3 going into the final leg, in which the Masons set a decent score of 12 dolls. The Yeoman looked on course to win the leg, needing only 3 dolls with two players to go. However, Henry's blob put the pressure on anchorman Jamie Flood. He held his nerve, hitting a two to secure a tied leg, meaning that the Yeoman won 6-4. The other two matches in the section both ended in 8-2 wins. (No card yet for the other match!). The George & Dragon won their match away against Chadlington SSC to maintain their title push, whilst the Three Horseshoes won their home match against the Oxford Yeoman 'B'. The 'Shoes lost the opening leg of this match before hitting back to claim the big win.

Premier:
There was a very entertaining match between Enstone SSC 'B' and Charlbury SSC, which went down to a last leg shootout. Enstone won the opening two legs in impressive fashion, hitting 23 dolls twice (including their handicap) to move 4-0 ahead. Charlbury hit back in style, taking the third leg after setting a mighty 25 dolls (again including their handicap). After a tied fourth leg, it was Charlbury who took the deciding leg to claim a share of the spoils with a 5-5 draw. The White House 'B' made it four weeks running where they have lost a last leg decider (I have no idea what the record is, but this must be getting close!) as they fell to a 6-4 defeat away at the dangerous Eynsham SSC 'A'. It was an entertaining match with some good throwing from both sides, which included a maximum each from Dan Reading (Eynsham) & Barry Twonsend (White House). If the Eynsham side can put a run of wins together then they could be the side to watch in the second half of the season. As for the White House, I can offically reveal that captain Mick Phipps has been given a vote of confidence by the board, although they expect results to improve. The final match of the report invloved leaders the Masons Arms 'A' prove to be to strong for a weakened White Hart side as they racked up a clean sweep 10-0 home win. As a team, the Masons are looking hard to beat, but in this game, you just don't know what will happen.
One final note this week relates to the friendly fixture played last week between the Cinnamon Stick and Stonesfield SSC 'B'. We've had a few issues with Section Two this year, so these friendly fixtures have been set up to make sure players are playing. When I asked how it went, I was delighted to hear that instead of the normal format, they played a 11-a-side match over three legs. 22 players, all having a throw! Great stuff, well done to those involved.
Thanks all - I'll get the stats updated over the next couple of days.

REPORT

After last week's cup action, it was back to the league format this week, which produced some very close matches across all three sections and some big results.

Premier:

Leaders the Masons Arms 'A' kept up their unbeaten start to the season, but they did things the hard way as they travelled to play Charlbury SSC. It was a very tight match, which swung one way and then the other. After a tied opening leg, the Masons won leg two before Charlbury hit back to win the next two legs to hold a 5-3 lead going into the last leg decider. However, they were unable to secure the match win after posting only 13 dolls in this last leg, which the Masons eased past to claim a share of the spoils. Gentle George Williams was back on form for Charlbury with a seasons best of 16 dolls. In the other Premier fixture, Enstone SSC 'B' spoiled the party by defeating the White House 'B' in their first match at their new home. It was the third week running that the White House side have lost a last leg decider, which is certainly not a good habit to have. With the scores tied at 4-4 going into the last leg, Enstone had their best leg of the match, posting a score of 20 dolls, which the White House failed to chase. Terry Stuart hit the first maximum of the season at the venue, whilst Jon Townsend clearly enjoyed the new throw after hitting 19 dolls. As for Enstone, Steve Mcateer top scored with 17 dolls but there was some impressive throwing by Nathan Wallington & Sam Cottle which helped their side claim the victory.
Section One:
The George & Dragon produced a fine performance this week, as they were the only side in the section to record a home victory. They hosted the Oxford Yeoman 'A', who actually won the opening leg before fading away as the George ran away with the rest of the match to secure a 8-2 win to move to the top of the table. Nigel King was on good form for the George, hitting a maximum in the second leg on his way to 21 dolls, whilst Colin Baldwin is clearly enjoying handing over the captain duties this year with a solid 12 dolls. Equally impressive were Middle Barton SSC, who racked up a 8-2 away win over the Oxford Yeoman 'B'. It was the Barton sides best performance of an indifferent season so far as they hit 71 dolls between them. All the players last week hit important dolls, with Mark Lacey being the top scorer with 16 dolls. There was another 8-2 away victory, this time by Chadlington SSC, who travelled to play Enstone SSC 'A'. Although it was a match of modest scores, that doesn't mean that it wasn't tense as there was only a couple of dolls between the sides in all the legs. I'm sure the Enstone side will be kicking themselves at not taking advantage over a weekend Chadlington side, so I expect them to come back strong this week.In the sections final match, there was one of my favourites - a last leg decider! The Masons Arms 'B' hosted the Three Horseshoes in a very tight match. The 'Shoes came out the blocks the quickest, winning both of the opening two legs. The Mason's started their comeback by taking leg three, before a tied fourth leg had the score poised at 5-3 in favour of the 'Shoes going into that last leg. However, after a low set by the 'Shoes, the Masons were able to win the leg and tie the match at 5-5.

Section Two:

Just the one match card received at the point of writing this report, so only one match to report on! It was a top of table clash, with Eynsham SSC 'B' hosting the White House 'A'. If I had a spare 50p, I would have had a bet on this going the distance before a stick was thrown. And I would have been right, as the match went to a last leg decider. It was tied at 4-4 going into this last leg, with both teams playing well. Eynsham set an impressive 15 dolls in this last leg, which the White House just failed to chase down, meaning that the home side claimed the match 6-4 to close the gap at the top of the table to just one point.

Quick bit of admin before I sign off

- The Singles draw will be published this weekend, so keep an eye on the website.

- Section Two sides - Those playing in the 'friendly' matches, I still need a picture of the card, and then the hard copy of the card sending in (I'm going to add these scores to your individual team sheets and will include the match in my report)

- I'm planning on doing this weeks report on Sunday 18th, so I need those cards in asap please

It's going to be a warm one this week - keep hydrated (Mines a Cider please!)
Good luck all, cheers

REPORT

In order to catch up with things, I'm going to slightly brush over the report on this week's cup action. If I remember correctly, it was a breezy evening, with conditions quite challenging. However, the action appeared to be good, with some good team performances and a couple of last leg deciders to add to the drama. Well done to all the winning sides, who can look forward to the next round of cup fixtures being played later in the season.

REPORT

There were more fixtures falling to the sidelines this week, so again a slightly shorter report. Just to remind those captains involved in postoned fixtures, Rule 3 states that matches should be played within one month of the original date. Lets get some dates agreed please (And don't forget to let me know!)
Section One
The Masons Arms 'B' produced the stand out performance in the section this week as they came away from their trip to play Middle Barton SSC with a 6-4 away win. The match swung one way and then the other, and went down to a last leg decider. The Mason's set in this leg, posting a solid total of 15 dolls. This proved to be enough as the Middle Barton fell short of their chase, meaning that the Mason's picked up their first win of the season. Leg three of the match was a particular highlight for the Mason's side as they racked up a total of 21, which included a six from Tom O'neill. The Three Horseshoes secured an impressive 9-1 away victory over a strangely quiet Yeoman 'A'.  Opening throwers Alex Chamberlain (15 dolls) and Sam Kelly (18 dolls) got the Horseshoes off to decent starts in every leg, which helped the side claim the big win. I'm sure the Yeoman 'A' will be disappointed by their efforts, so expect them to bounce back soon. In the other fixture in the section to report on, the Yeoman 'B' won a last leg decider against Chadlington SSC to claim a good 6-4 win. With the score tied at 4-4, the Yeoman 'B' set 15 dolls in this decider, which proved enough to claim the leg and the match.
Premier
There was a fixture of the highest quality played between old rivals the Masons Arms 'A & The Black Prince this week, which really did go the distance. The Prince won the opening two legs to move into a 4-0 lead (including hitting 25 in leg two, the highest leg of the season so far). The Masons rallied and to hit back to tie the match at 4-4 with one leg left to play. The Prince set 18 dolls in this last leg, which definitely falls into the unknown category. It looked like it might be enough, with the Mason's captain & anchorman Spencer Buckingham left needing 4 to draw, 5 to win. As the Prince side looked on, Spencer produced a magical throw, hitting his first five sticks to claim the win for his side. It was a fantastic match to take part in, with the both sides playing their part. The Prince racked up 100 dolls between them, which included a 6 from Lee Hazell, and can only wonder how they didn't win after performing so well. However, the Masons side were equally as good, with all players hitting important dolls at key times. Their middle order (Bobby Hall, Kevin Johnson & Adolfo Kerpache) all came in with great scores over the last three legs which enabled the Masons to claim the 6-4 win. There was a rearranged fixture between Eynsham SSC 'A' and Enstone SSC 'B' which also went to a last leg shootout. Eynsham won the opening two legs, before Enstone hit back to tie the match at 4-4. It was Eynsham that claimed this final leg, with Enstone falling just one doll short in their chase. Steve Mcateer hit his first maximum of the season for Enstone.
Section Two
Just the one match to report on from this section, and it went to yet another last leg decider. The match in question was between the White House and the Red Lion. It was a very close match which could have gone either way. There were two drawn legs, plus a win apiece as the score was tied at 4-4 going into the last leg shootout. It was the home side that produced a mighty performance in this last leg, hitting 17 dolls to claim the leg and the match 6-4. Wayne Gray was on fine form for the White House, hitting 17 dolls from his anchorman position.
Cup action this week - remember that a card still needs to be completed and sent in. A few cards are coming in a little late, but I do understand that there are some postal issues in the area. Try and get the cards posted on Friday, then they should be with me in good time.
Good luck all, ta

REPORT

There were a couple of postponements this week, which has just about given me time to catch up with the stats - sorry for being a little behind.

Section One

The performance of the week in Section One was in doubt by the George & Dragon. They made the journey to Freeland to play the Oxford Yeoman 'B', and produced a mighty performance to claim a 10-0 clean sweep. They hit 80 dolls in total, which included a huge 23 in leg four. Captain Dave Gardiner was the George's star man hitting 19 dolls, which included his first six of the season. The other Freeland side, the Oxford Yeoman 'A' faired much better in their fixture, coming away with a 7-3 away win over Enstone SSC 'A'. It was an incredibly close match, with the scoreline not be a true reflection of how close things were. The third, forth & fifth legs all ended up in draws, so the result could have quite easily been the other way around. The other match in the section was between the Three Horseshoes & Middle Barton SSC. It was the Horseshoes who claimed the spoils, winning 8-2. Middle Barton actually won the opening leg, but were strangely below par for the remaining legs which allowed the Horseshoes to claim the big win. No card received at the point of writing this from the Masons Arms 'B' v Chadlington SSC match so I'm afraid I can't report on it.

There was a high quality match in the Premier, as the Three Pigeons hosted the Masons Arms 'A'. The Pigeons hit 81 dolls, with Neil Lyon (26 dolls) & Roger Goodall (19 dolls) leading the way with big numbers. However, it was the Masons who scored even better, hitting 82 dolls (97 dolls if you included the handicap) as they claimed the week's other 10-0 clean sweep and showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season. Neil was on fine form in the match, racking up his 26 dolls with sixes in the fourth & fifth legs (plus a six in the beer leg so I've been told) Great stuff Neil, very well done. The Premier's other match saw the Black Prince host the White Hart. It was a great match to take part in, with both sides scoring well. The Prince hit some big numbers. They hit 96 dolls in the match, which included the highest leg score by any team so far with 24 dolls in the second leg. Despite these numbers, a 6-4 win was the best they could do as the White Hart side stuck with them and pushed them all the way.
Section Two

Only one match to report on in the Section, which was the Stonesfield derby. With bragging rights on offer, it was the B side who had smiles on their faces at the end of the night after claiming a 8-2 win. The A side were another side strangely off colour, although the B side have also had better nights. But they did job, and claimed their first win of the season.

Job done - for the Section Two sides, please make sure you have read your emails and checked the home page of the website regarding the updated fixture list.

One final note on postponed fixtures - try to avoid this if at all possible! I know how many people you have signed on, so cancelling a match just because the best player can't play is not a reason to cancel.

There have been some genuine reason so far, which of course is fine - just try and get these games played as soon as possible please (Matches MUST be replayed within a month of the original date)

Thanks all, enjoy the sunshine this week

REPORT

That's better! People started to remember what to do this week, with some impressive scoring througout all three sections.

Section Two:
Eynsham SSC 'B' made it two wins out of two after winning another last leg decider, this time in their home match against Stonesfield SSC 'A'. But they were made to work hard for their victory! Eynsham took early advantage in the match, moving into a 5-1 lead after three legs. Stonesfield A hit back to win the fourth leg to take the match to the final leg. Eynsham set in this last leg, knowing that a draw would secure the match win. They set 10 dolls, which Stonesfield looked on track to chase down, only to fall agonisingly 1 doll short, meaning the leg was tied and the match win went to the Eynsham side. I do love a close finish! The Woodman Inn pick up their first ever points, despite going down to a 6-4 home defeated to the Cinnamon Stick. The Cinnamon Stick won the opening three legs, but the Woodman stuck at, claiming legs four & five to get their first points. Well done ladies. The Red Lion got a tick in their matches won tally after producing a good performance away from home at Stonesfield SSC 'B'. Both sides won a leg each at the beginning of the match, but the the Lion side claimed the final three legs to pick up a good win.
Section One:
Another week with a late/not received card! Let's get this addressed please to avoid me from getting cranky! There was a high quality fixture between the George & Dragon and the Masons Arms B which wouldn't have looked out of place if it was played in the Premeir section. A total of 150 dolls were hit between the two sides (George 79, Masons 71) in a high scoring affair. The Masons won the opening leg, setting a mighty score of 20 dolls, with the George falling just short with 19 dolls. The next three legs were won by the George by just a couple of dolls in very close legs, before a slightly more comfortable win in the last leg gave the George a 8-2 win. The scoreline was harsh on the Masons as they would have won most weeks with those scores. The Mason's anchorman Andy Mott had a good night, recording the sections first 6 of the season in the third leg (although I'm sure his teammates pulled his leg a little when he came back with a blob in the fourth leg!) Just goes to show how frustrating the game can be! The Oxford Yeoman 'A' secured their first win, picking up a 7-3 victory over Middle Barton SSC. It was an excellent team performance by the Yeoman lads, with Joe Langford in fine form hitting 17 dolls. Everyone chipped in with dolls, and they managed to keep the dreaded blob from the card (Except for Tom Lay & Ethan Simlett - your captain told me to name and shame you!) As for Middle Barton, they are again going to be a difficult opponent to anyone who plays them this year, with four very strong players in their side, anything is possible. In the other match to report on, Enstone SSC 'A' hosted the Oxford Yeoman 'B'. Both sides recored victories in their opening matches, so this looked like it would be a tight match. And indeed it was, as it went the distance and required a last a leg decider. It was the Yeoman side who took this decider after setting 15 dolls, which was a total that Enstone fell short of chasing, despite the best efforts of Eve Blake, who scored a 4 in the leg.

Premier Section:

I know it's only week two, but I'm making an early claim that this is going to be the most evenly contested season that we have had. Everyone is capable of beating each other, so every leg could prove vital. Lets see if I'm right or not.
The only side to pick up a victory was Charlbury SSC, who hosted the Black Prince. We know that Charlbury are a strong side at home, and despite the Prince hitting 8 more dolls than Charlbury, it was the home side that came away with a 7-3 win. There was some good scoring throughout the match, which included Mick Phipps hitting a maximum for the Prince in the third leg on his way to 18 dolls. Howver the match top doll scorer was Charlbury's lead off man Alan Stevens, who came in with 19 dolls. A good nights work Alan, well done. The other two matches both ended up in draws, which of course ment more last leg shootouts! The White Hart hosted the Three Pigeons, and were leading the match 5-3 going into their deciding leg. When they set 18 dolls, they must have thought victory was theirs as the Pigeons side hadn't scored more than that total in the match so far. But, the Pigeons flexed their muscles! Lead off man Anthony Algar starting the ball rolling with a maximum, and the rest of the team backed him up as they went on to hit 23 dolls, which is the highest leg total so far this season. There were some big numbers within the Pigeons side, but special mention should go to Ben Lyon, who scored of 14 dolls (Including a 5 in the opening leg which helped his team tie the leg). His performance goes to show that it's not always about the players who hit 5's & 6's - it's the 2's and 3's that can make the difference. The last match saw the Masons Arms A host Eynsham SSC A in another tight affair. Eynsham came out the blocks fastest by winning the opening two legs, before the Mason's hit back to make the score 5-3 in Eynshams favour going into the last leg. At bit like the White Hart/Three Pigeons match, Eynsham must have thought that the victory was theirs after setting 18 dolls in this last leg, but it wasn't to be the case as the Masons came in with their best leg of the season so far to hit 22 dolls and claim a share of the spoils. Eynsham's ruthless selection policy was again on show, and they might be thinking that they should have one the match, but take the Masons lightly at your peril! The only Eynsham player to play all five legs was Keith Powell, and he continued his good early season form with 21 dolls.

Job done, good luck this week all

REPORT

Finally, after months of work and planning, the 2023 got under way with the opening week of league fixtures taking place. There was obviously some rustiness, as there wasn't any sixes scored. But I know what you lot are like, so I expect some big scores as the season moves forward.

Premier Section:

Last years runners up the Three Pigeons opened up with an impressive 8-2 home victory over a dangerous looking Charlbury SSC side. The Pigeons claimed the first three legs of the match fairly comfortably to move into a 6-0 lead. However, things got harder in leg four. After being set only 12 dolls, it looked like the leg was gone as anchorman Wayne Townsend was left with four to tie. But, not only did he manage to get the tie, he also went on to hit one more to score a five and win the leg. With some big players performing on the night, it was Wayne who started the season off in style to top score with 22 dolls. Word has it that he was comtemplating retiring after the match after this effort, but he was talked out of this! Last year's Section One winners Enstone SSC 'B' were involved in an entertaining 5-5 at home against the Masons Arms 'A'. It was a very even match which went down to a last leg decider. Enstone won the opening two legs, but the Mason's hit back to take points in legs three & four, meaning that the score was poised at 5-3 going into the last leg. After being set 17 dolls, the Masons were up against it, but a good team effort saw them score 18, taking the leg and securing the draw. In the other Premier fixture, Eynsham SSC 'A' got their campaign up and running by winning 6-4 at home against neighbours the White Hart. They secured the win early, winning the opening three legs, before the White Hart hit back to get four points on the board. On paper, the Eynsham side look to have the strongest squad in the league this year, so it will be interesting to see if they can manage their large squad to mount a title challenge.
Section One:
There was a couple of late/not received cards in Section One, so I only have two matches to report on.There was a Freeland derby to kick off the league program, with the Yeoman 'B' 'hosting' the Yeoman 'B'. It was a fixture of the unknown, with the 'A' side having moved up the sections over the last couple of seasons and the 'B' side returning to play at the pub. As it turned out, the slight extra quality that the 'B side had in their side made the difference as they claimed a 7-3 victory. In the other match, Enstone SSC 'A' claimed victory after winning a last leg decider to secure a 6-4 away win over the Masons Arms 'B'. With the match tied at 4-4 going into the last leg, it was Enstone who set, and were greatly assisted by Jason Eley's score of 5 to set a total of 11 dolls. This proved to be enough as the Masons fell short of this total, meaning the away side claimed victory in the match. Jason made an excellent return to playing after missing seasons, hitting 21 dolls. Good to have you back Jason, well done.

Section Two:

We have three new sides in the league this season, and it was the White House who had the best night of them. They made the trip to Middle Barton to play the Cinnamon Stick, and after drawing the opening leg, they went on to win all of the remaining legs to secure a mighty 9-1 away win. That's the way to kick things off team, well done. Lead off man Wayne Gray was the top scorer for the White House side, coming in with 13 dolls. There was another debut victory for one of the other new sides, with Eynsham SSC 'B' also getting an away win, this one being a bit tougher as they played the Red Lion. The match was tied at 4-4 going into the last leg, but Eynsham managed to claimed this last leg by just a single doll to secure a 6-4 match victory. Andy Stratford was the star man for Eynsham, coming in with an excellent 16 dolls. The final new side are the Woodman Inn, who have a side made up of people playing in an Aunt Sally league for the first time. Stonesfield SSC 'A' were the side that hosted them, and they were ruthless in picking up the week's only 10-0 clean sweep victory. The Woodman side have contacted me to say how much they enjoyed it, which is the priority. They are very new, and will need some support during the opening few weeks, so I encourage all sides & captains to assist them when needed and welcome them to our league.
Thanks all
