WEEKLY REPORT:

So, the curtain came down on the 2019 season, with another thrilling finals night at Eynsham Sports & Social Club.

The action kicked off with the SUPPLEMENTARY CUP FINAL, which was between the MASONS ARMS B and the SWAN. The MASONS were looking to make it a league & cup double after already picking up the Section Two title, whilst the SWAN were looking to claim some silverware in their debut season. After beating the MASONS B in both of the league fixtures played in the season, the SWAN would have fancied their chances at causing an upset. However, it was the MASONS B that showed their class to claim the trophy which by winning the first three legs to record a 6-0 victory. Well done to the MASONS B, who capped off a great season to secure the league & cup double. And well done to the SWAN, who made it through to perform at finals night on their debut season.

The second match of the night was the FOUR-A-SIDE FINAL, which was set to be a battle for bragging rights at the BLACK PRINCE as the BLACK PRINCE A took on the BLACK PRINCE B. It was the PRINCE A that came out on top in a straight forward affair, with the four made up of DARREN GRANT, PHIL AUSTIN, MICK PHIPPS & KIETH POWELL winning the first two legs to take the victory.

The next match was the TRIPLES FINAL, which was another battle between the BLACK PRINCE A & the BLACK PRINCE B. Like the Fours final, this turned out to be a straight forward affair, with the triple of BARRY TOWNSEND, JON TOWNSEND & DICK WALSH comfortably winning in two straight legs to claim the trophy.

Next up was the SIXERS CUP FINAL, which is always a greatly sought after trophy to win. It was played between the six players that made it through from the SIXERS PLAYOFF NIGHT held a couple of weeks ago. It is usually a high scoring event, but for some reason this wasn't the case this year. Except for one player that is. PHIL AUSTIN was in fine form and produced the standout performance, hitting scores of 5,4,4,4,5 on his way to 22 dolls to easily claim the trophy. This event is palyed down to the runner up, which was somehow claimed by LEE THOMPSON, even though he only managed 13 dolls over the five legs (last years runner up finished on 18 dolls). NIGEL KING had the chance to claim the runner up spot, but failed to score in his final throw when sitting on 12 dolls. Well done to all six players who made it through to play in such a great event.

The next action was the two SINGLES COMPETITION SEMI FINALS. The first semi was between favourite LEE THOMPSON from the QUEENS HEAD and MICK FOREMAN from the BLACK PRINCE. ALthough it was a low scoring match, it was certainly tense. MICK went ahead after setting 2 in the opening leg, which LEE couldn't match. LEE then set 2 in the second leg, which was matched by MICK, meaning a deciding leg was required. MICK then set a 3 in this last leg, and with LEE needing to beat this to take it to a three sticker, he fell just short with a 2, meaning MICK advanced into the final. The second semi final was a more straight forward match, with BLACK PRINCE teammates, previous winners and car sharers DICK WALSH & JON TOWNSEND facing off against eachother. It was JON that won through to take his place in the final for the second year running after taking the first two legs, hitting a 4 and a 3 which proved to be enough.

The next match was the KNOCKOUT CUP FINAL, which saw the BLACK PRINCE A face off against ENSTONE SSC. On paper, it looked like the PRINCE would be favourites, but on their day ENSTONE are more than capable of hitting big scores and beating anyone, so it looked like it would be an interesting match. The PRINCE set in the opening leg, and posted a big score of 24 dolls, which included the evenings only maximum, hit by JON TWONSEND. This proved a big enough total as ENSTONE came up short in their chase. ENSTONE then set in the second leg, and posted a total of 15 dolls, which is a total which has won many legs in the past. But not this time, as the PRINCE cruised past this total with only four players needing to throw. It was back to the PRINCE to set in the third leg, and they again posted a fine total of 24 dolls. ENSTONE put in a fantastic effort to chase this down and can consider themselves very unlucky as they came up just short with 23 dolls. This meant that the BLACK PRINCE A matched the MASONS ARMS B by completing a league and cup double.

The penultimate game of the evening was the PAIRS FINAL between holders NEIL PRATLEY & CHARLIE BUCKINGHAM from the MASONS ARMS and the new pairing of ROGER GOODALL & MICK PHIPPS from the BLACK PRINCE. The smart money was on this match going the distance, which indeed it did. The MASONS pair won the opening leg with ease, setting 8 dolls which was more than enough. The PRINCE pair set in the second leg, and posted a score of 7 dolls, which turned out to be just enough as the MASONS pair fell just short with a reply of 6 dolls. Onto the deciding leg, and it was the MASONS pair who set, but with the tension ramped up, they only managed to post a score of 5 dolls, and with a couple of 3's hit the PRINCE pair managed to claim the victory.

So, the last action of the evening was the main event, being the SINGLES FINAL, which this year would be between MICK FOREMAN from the BLACK PRINCE B and holder JON TOWNSEND from the BLACK PRINCE A. I hope both the players enjoyed playing in it as much as the crowd enjoyed watching it. JON won the toss and decided to set, but could only post a score of 2 dolls. MICK would have backed himself to chase this down, but could only match it, meaning it was a shared leg. It was then MICK'S turn to set, and he produced a magic set of sticks to post a score of 5 dolls, to which JON fell just short in chasing down as he scored 4 dolls. With MICK holding the advantage going into the deciding leg, it was JON who won the toss and set. He posted a score of 3 dolls, and with MICK only needing to tie this score to claim the crown, he held his nerve to do just that. A massive congratulations go to MICK, who proved to be a very popular winner and deserves to get his name on the cup after performing so well over the last few seasons.

Due to the maximum he hit in the KNOCKOUT FINAL, JON TOWNSEND managed to retain the SIX HITTER trophy, awarded to the player who has hit the most sixes during the season. That six took his total of maximums to 6, which was enough to put him one above DICK WALSH in the final table. Well done to the 'Machine' for another fantastic season.

The only other outstanding trophy to be decided was the PLAYER OF THE NIGHT AWARD. The winner of this came from the evenings opening match, and was awarded to TOM O'NEIL from the MASONS ARMS B. TOM hit 3,4 & 5 to help his side take the SUPPLEMENTARY CUP. Throwing at number four in the order, his dolls made a huge difference to his sides totals, and without them the overall result could have been very different. With this in mind it was a pleasure to award the trophy to TOM.

And that, is pretty much that. I have lots of delightful photos of those of you that picked up an award, so check back here soon to see yourself in lights.

My final piece of business to report on in this section is actually the most important part...... the thank you's!

WEEK 21/ 22 - 12th/19th SEPT

All eyes were on the battle for the Section Three title race, with the Top Doll Scorer awards also still up for grabs. The two sides challenging for the title faced off against each other in what was a crucial match at this late stage of the season. It was, as predicted, a very tight match, with both sides knowing that every point was vital. It was the Fox that claimed a narrow 6-4 win after winning the last leg. There were two drawn legs in the match, so the result could have been very different. Joe Langford stepped up for the Yeoman, hitting a 5 in legs 1 & 4 to help his side get the 4 points. Staying with this title race, the Yeoman then played their outstanding league fixture on the Monday against in form Stonesfield Sports. The Yeoman held their nerve in this match to claim a 8-2 home win, although this was against a Stonesfield side playing with only 5 players. It was a great team effort by the Yeoman considering how important the match was, although their fines pot suffered as there was only 2 blobs on the card. This result put the Yeoman in the driving seat going into the final round of fixtures as they held a narrow 3 point lead. The Fox played their final match at home against the Red Lion, and set down the marker by picking up a 6-4 win. This match went the distance, with the Fox winning the last leg shootout to secure the win. Steve Rogers ended his season well by hitting 16 dolls, which was enough for him to claim the Section Three Top Doll Scorer award for the second season running. So, the Fox ended their campaign on 115 points, which meant the the Yeoman needed 4 points for the title. They played their final match at Woodstock SC, which on paper looked like a tricky fixture. And it certainly was! The Social Club opened up by winning legs 1 & 2 to take a 4-0 lead. Squeaky bum time for the Yeoman. The Yeoman set 15 in leg 3, which was in serious danger of being chased down, however the final three players from the Social Club could only manage a single doll each, meaning the match score was 4-2. Still squeaky bum time. Leg 4 saw the Social club set 14 dolls, a score which has one many legs before. But not this time, as the Yeoman produced their best leg of the night to hit 18 dolls and secure the Section Three crown. A last leg draw saw the match end 5-5 and the drinks start to flow. Well dones lads.

Other highlights from these two weeks were a maximum hit by Andy Mott for the Masons Arms B, although it didn't stop his side from suffering a 8-2 away defeat at the Swan, and also the Red Lion, who racked up 71 dolls on their way to a very impressive 10-0 away win over the George & Dragon B. The final thing that was settle during these matches was the Section Two Top Doll Scorer award. Or actually, wasn't settled! After all the sticks thrown throughout a long season, Dave Gardiner for the George & Dragon B and Ray Townsend for the Red Lion have both finished on 257 dolls! A great effort by both players, and a tie at the top is a nice way to end things off.

WEEK 20 REPORT - 5th SEPT

All the focus this week was on the Section Three title race, with the Fox and the Oxford Yeoman A both hopeful to claim top spot in this final stage of the season. The Fox suffered a shock 8-2 away defeat at the hands of an inspired Elm Tree, who are enjoying a good end to the season. Ray Barson took over at the top of the Section Three Top Doll Scorer table after hitting a fine 16 dolls. This result gave the Yeoman A chance to close the gap, which they managed to do in a very close match with the George & Dragon B. There was just a single doll hit between the two sides, so it's little wonder that the match ended in a 5-5 draw. With the Fox hosting the Yeoman in next weeks round of fixtures, it looks like the destination of the title will go down to the wire. The Masons Arms B showed why they Section Two champions after hitting 76 dolls and the way to beating local rivals the Woodman. Adolfo Kerpcahe was in fine form for the Masons after hitting 18 dolls. Stonesfield SSC were the only side to pick up an away win after they recorded a 7-3 win at Woodstock SC. It was the best performance of the season so far by Stoney, as they hit 64 dolls, and didn't have a single blob on the card. Finally, there was a 5-5 draw played out between the Red Lion and the Swan in another close match. The Swan were ahead 5-3 going into the final leg of the match, but the Lion managed to sneak a win in this leg to gain a share of the points.

So with only a couple of games to go, there is still plenty to play for. The Section Two & Section Three Top Doll Scorer titles are looking very interesting, with a few players still in the hunt to take the top spot, and obviously the Section Three title is still up for grabs.Lets see what happens!

WEEK 19 REPORT - 29th AUGUST

So, the final round of league fixtures for the Top Sections arrived, with both the Premier and Section One titles still to be decided. Going into the matches, there was just a single point between the Three Horseshoes and the Oxford Yeoman B in the race for the Section One crown. Both sides were drawn at home, so were hoping for big wins. The Shoes did their part after securing a 8-2 win over the Queens Head, to put them on 93 points. It was a solid performance by the Shoes, with Mick Greenaway, Richard Jones & Gary Chamberlain all hitting 13 dolls. Lee Thompson secured the Section One Top Doll Scorer award after coming in with 15 dolls. So, that result left the Yeoman needing a 10-0 result to take the title. And a 10-0 result was exactly what happened, but shockingly for the Yeoman it was a 10-0 defeat! It was Enstone SSC that did the damage, producing a great performance to not only inflict the heavy defeat, but to also overtake the Yeoman in the table to take the Runners Up spot in the table. Way back in April, on the leagues opening round of fixtures, Enstone's Martin Blake claimed a 6, and on this final league fixture of the season he repeated this feat, with his 6 helping him to a fantastic 19 dolls. George Williams matched Blakey by scoring 19 dolls, but didn't manage a maximum, which I'm sure Blakey might have mentioned! As for the Premier title, and chasers Chadlington SSC were playing a double header against the Black Prince B, knowing that they needed a couple of maximum victories to stand a chance of claiming the title. They gave it everything that they had, but ultimately fell just short after winning 8-2. Mick Foreman ended the season well with 19 dolls for the Prince B. Both sides should be very proud of their efforts this season as they have more than played their part in making this a really close battle. This result left the Black Prince A needing a small victory to retain the title. They just about did this, after winning 6-4 away at the Cock Inn. The Prince A won the first three legs, but the Cock then showed how good they can be by setting 21 & 24 in the final two legs, which the Prince failed to chased down. Dave Evans had the perfect end to his league season by hitting his first 6 of the season in the last leg for the Cock, and teammate Mark Lacey also impressed with 17 dolls. In the weeks final match to report on, there were three 6's hit, with Spencer & Charlie Buckingham for the Masons and John Busby for Hanborough ending the season well. Spencer & John hit their maximums in the final leg, so signed off their league action in perfect style. It was the Masons A that secured the victory after winning 8-2, with Charlie Buckingham securing his position as Premier Top Doll Scorer for the season with a fantastic 21 dolls.

Moving into the Lower Sections, and the Masons Arms B confirmed the winning of Section Two after a very impressive 10-0 away win over the Red Lion. It was the Mason's best team performance of the season, as they hit 79 dolls, a total which was only beaten by Premier sides the Black Prince A and the Masons Arms A. They have had a fine season this year, and I'm sure they will be looking forwards to playing in Section One again next season. As for the race for the Section Three title, and it looks like this will be going down to the wire. The Fox hold a small advantage at the top after winning 7-3 away at Stonesfield SSC. It was a very close match, and at this late stage in the season every point counts, so I wonder how important the 4th leg of this match will be, which saw the Fox's anchor man John Stockford hit the 4 needed to secure a draw in the leg and pick up what could prove to be a vital point. The Oxford Yeoman A are hot on the heels of the Fox, and their case was helped greatly by securing a 9-1 away win at the Swan. It was a good team effort by the Yeoman, with every player hitting important dolls at crucial times. With a game in hand, can the Yeoman hold their nerve to nick the title? The Elm Tree produced a fine performance to secure a 9-1 away win over the George & Dragon B, which included a fine 17 dolls by lead off man Goff Jones. After a tied opening leg, the Elm Tree went on to win all of the remaining legs to pick up the big win and move up the table. Finally, the George & Dragon A picked up a long overdue victory after winning a last leg decider against the Woodman to take the match 6-4.

WEEK 18 - 22nd AUGUST

I always try not to start things off with events relating to the Black Prince teams, but seeing as they played each other at such an important stage of the season I have very little choice. It was a very high scoring match, with the doll being knocked off 183 times! With their recent form being so good, it was the 'A' side that started the best, as they took the opening two legs. However, after being set 19 in the third leg, the 'B' side hit back by scoring 21 to get a leg on the board. A set of 20 was enough for the 'A' side to take the fourth leg and secure the match victory, but the highlight of the match was the final leg. The 'A' side set a big score of 22, which would win most legs. But not this one, as the 'B' side hit dolls for fun as they hit 24, meaning that the match ended in a 6-4 win for 'A' side. Dick Walsh moved to the top of the Sixers table after hitting his fourth maximum of the season so far. Chadlington SSC kept up their faint hopes of taking the Premier title after defeating the in form Three Horseshoes 8-2 at home. Richard Johnson was the match top scorer with a solid 16 dolls, but there were other players that more than deserve a mention! Chad's Keith Morley played another 5 legs, and recorded his second double figure score of the season with 10 dolls, whilst the Horseshoe's Nick Baldwin backed up last weeks total of 15 dolls with 13 dolls this week. But my special mention goes to Mike Benson. After his 'interesting' night last week, Mike came in with 15 dolls this week, which is great work. Well done Mike. The Oxford Yeoman B moved to within a point of leaders the Three Horseshoes after picking up a 8-2 away win at Hanborough SSC. It was a very close match, with the final two legs ending in draws. It was a solid team effort by the Yeoman, and this result means it's all to play for in Section One going into the final round of fixtures. The Masons Arms A edged out the Queens Head 7-3, in another close battle. Looking at the scores, the match result could have gone either way, but it was the Masons that did just enough to secure the away win. Jeff Glenister was the match top scorer with 19 dolls, but there was also a good effort by teammate Lee Thompson, who has 18 dolls. The final match in the top sections was a double header, with Enstone SSC hosting the Cock Inn for two matches on the same night. They were both close matches, with Enstone winning the scheduled fixture 7-3, and then the Cock winning the rearranged match 6-4.

In the lower sections, there was a standout performance by Dave Gardiner for the George & Dragon B, who hit a mighty 20 dolls to help his side claim 7-3 home win over Stonesfield SSC. Dave was very close to getting even bigger praise, as in the final leg he was left 6 to draw, but he fell just one doll short with a score of 5. There must have been either a lot of wind or a new heavy weight doll being used at Woodstock SC in their match at home against the Woodman, as there was the small matter of 26 blobs recorded! Despite the low scoring, it didn't stop the Social Club from picking up a clean sweep 10-0 victory, which gives them an outside chance of winning Section Three. The Masons Arms B returned to winning ways after last week's defeat by winning 8-2 at home over the George & Dragon A, with Adolfo Kerpache performing well yet again with 17 dolls. Mike Phipps had his best night of the season so far for the George with a solid 15 dolls. The Red Lion narrowly won a last leg decider in their match against the Oxford Yeoman A to secure a 5-5 draw. After only being set a score of 6 in this final leg, it still needed the Lion's anchor man Marcus Copelin to hit the 2 dolls required to claim a share of the points. In the final match of the week, the Swan secured a 6-4 away win over the Elm Tree, thanks to a season's best 16 dolls by Sean Waldron.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS:

WEEK 17 - 15th AUGUST

Not long left teams! I'm trying my hardest to get everything updated so you all know what's going on!

I'll kick things off in the Lower Sections, were there were some interesting results a great individual performances. The Fox Inn recorded what could be a very important maximum 10-0 victory away at the Woodman to stretch their lead at the top of Section Three. Usual anchor man Steve Rogers was promoted to the top of the order this week, and came in with 12 dolls, but it was John Stockford who top scored for the Fox with 15 dolls. The Oxford Yeoman A kept in the hunt after picking up their first ever victory against Section Two leaders the Masons Arms B. It was a tight match that went the distance, but it was the Yeoman who won the deciding leg to take a 6-4 win. More post match shots for the 'buzzing' winners I suggest!! There was also a very close match between the Red Lion and the Elm Tree, which saw the final three legs end in a tie. Good job there is no 3 sticks in the league format of they might still be playing now! The Lion won the opening two legs, before the remaining legs were drawn, meaning that the Lion picked up a 7-3 win. Wayne Townsend took the match top scorer award with 15 dolls.

In the Top Sections, it was yet another week of mixed results, which is why our league is so interesting! It was a big week for Enstone SSC, who played two matches and picked up two wins. Their scheduled Thursday match was away against the Black Prince B, and they produced a mighty performance to pick up a 8-2 win. It was easily their best performance of the season so far as they hit 81 dolls, with Martin Blake, John Fitzgerald and George Williams all hitting 17 dolls each. They then played their rearranged fixture at home against Chadlington SSC, where they hit back from being 4-0 behind to win 6-4 and put a massive dent in Chad's hopes of winning the Premier title. There was an interesting night for a certain Chadlington player in their scheduled fixture, which saw them pick up a 6-4 home win over the Queens Head. Mike Benson recorded the strange scores of X,5,X,X,X, and yet even though he had four blobs there were still two players in the Chad team that had lower totals than him! You throw a nice looking stick Mike, hang in there mate, I'm sure I'll be writing about a big total from you very soon. The top scorer of the week award was given to Barry Townsend, who seems very much back in the swing of things as hit a mighty 23 dolls for the Black Prince A away at the Three Horseshoes, which helped the Prince to a 8-2 win. Finally, there was a great comeback by the Masons Arms A, as they hit back from being 3-1 down to secure a 7-3 home win over the Oxford Yeoman B. After a short stint as lead off man, Charlie Buckingham returned to being anchorman, and would have been pleased to hit the 4 needed to win in the third leg. However, this was nothing compared to what he did in the final leg, where Charlie was faced with the anchor mans dream of 5 to draw, 6 to win. Six sticks later, six dolls later, Charlie was the hero! Fantastic stuff Sir, well done

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS:

WEEK 14 - 25th JULY

IIt was a decent night for the teams playing at home in the Top Sections, with three wins and a draw registered by the home sides. The biggest victory was by the Oxford Yeoman B, who after losing the opening leg of the match, went on to defeat the Three Horseshoes 8-2. There was a tight match between Hanborough Sports and the Queens Head, who battled out a 5-5 draw. The Black Prince A clung on to continue with their late push for the title by  winning a last leg decider to defeat the Masons Arms A 6-4.

In the Lower Sections, all five home sides recorded big victories. There were two clean sweeps, with the George & Dragon B beating Woodstock SC 10-0, and the Swan also picking up maximum points against the George & Dragon B.

WEEK 15 - 1st AUGUST

It was the Masons Arms B that deserve the headlines this week, and in particular, Alan Wood. As reported by his captain, Alan came in with a full 5 legs of action, in which he scored in every leg as he hit 9 dolls. It's not all about the so called top players, everyone deserves a mention when they perform well. Alan's performance helped the Masons pick up a 8-2 away win over the Elm Tree, and move to within touching distance of claiming the Section Two title. The Fox were upstaged in their bid to pick up the Section Three title as they were defeated 6-4 away at the Woodstock SC, which should mean that the destination of the title will go down to the final week of the season.

There was a massive game in the Premier Section, with leaders Chadlington SSC hosting chasing Black Prince A. Chadlington knew that a positive result would see them take a big towards picking up their first ever Premier title, but it was the Prince A that came away with a big 9-1 win. It was also a massive week for the Three Horseshoes, as they played two matches on the same night against local rivals Hanborough SSC. They picked up an impressive 9-1 away win in the first match, and then after a short walk down the road they went one better and recorded a maximum 10-0 win. 19 points in one evening has certainly put the Shoes back in the title hunt! The Queens Head also picked up a big win after defeating Enstone SSC 9-1 at home, which was helped by an impressive 20 doll haul from Jeff Glenister.

WEEK 16 - 8th AUGUST

As the league format enters into the final stretch, everything is still up for grabs! The Three Horseshoes continued their recent good form to pick up a 8-2 home win over the Cock Inn in a rearranged fixture from earlier in the season, and then backed it up with another 8-2 win in their scheduled fixture away at Enstone SSC. This has strengthen their position at the top of the Section One table, although the Oxford Yeoman B kept themselves in the title picture after securing a 8-2 win at home over the Cock Inn. It was a solid team effort by the Yeoman, with all six players reaching double figures. The Black Prince A took a big step to retaining the Premier Section title after a maximum 10-0 win at home over the Queens Head. The Prince hit their highest total of season, racking up a mighty 109 dolls over the five legs, with Barry Townsend coming in with 20 dolls.

In the Lower Sections, there were some fine individual performances by some of the George & Dragon players, as Derek Richards (13 dolls) and Kevin Gardiner (15 dolls) both cam in with their best weeks of the season so far to help the George pick up a 6-4 home win over the Woodman. The other George & Dragon side also picked up a victory, even though captain Ryan Hunt was missing. Vice captain Mike Phipps led his side to a stunning 7-3 away win over title contenders the Fox, helped by a fantastic 16 doll haul by Mark Bowerman. Sean Osgathorp registered his first double figure score of the season to help the Red Lion pick up a 6-4 away win at Stonesfield SSC, which just about keeps them in with a chance of claiming the Section Two title. However, it looks like the title will go to the Masons Arms B, as they recorded their fourth consecitive 8-2 victory, this time at home against the Woodstock SC.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS:

WEEK 11 - 4th JULY

With the top two Sections involved in Singles action, the focus was on Sections Two & Three. It was Woodstock SC who picked up the biggest win of the week after defeating the Elm Tree 9-1 at home, helped by Malc Holley top scoring with 13 dolls and also a season's best total of 8 dolls by Pete Johnson. Stonesfield Sports won a last leg decider to claim a 5-5 draw away at the George & Dragon in a very tight affair, which saw 3 out of the 5 legs won by just a single doll. The top two sides in Section Three battled it out, which resulted in the Fox claiming an important 7-3 away win over rivals the Oxford Yeoman A. It sounded like a great night played in great spirits, judging by the amount of shots that the Fox had to buy after losing a boozy shootout at the end of the night!! Good to hear teams, great stuff

As for the Singles Competition, congratulations to Lee Thompson, Mick Foreman, Jon Townsend & Dick Walsh for making it through to play in the Semi Finals at Finals Night. It was a good night as always. Just to address a couple of messages that I received, the competition format for this season was clearly outlined at the begining of the year, which explained that due to the extra league fixtures we had decided to schedule league matches for the teams in Sections Two & Three. You could have moved the dates of your league matches to allow you to play, but guess you will have to speak to your captain about why that didn't happen! Don't worry, we hope to address this issue for next season

WEEK 12 - 11th JULY

It was back to a full league program this week, with the headlines belonging to one player. Fresh of the back of getting through the Singles last week, Lee Thompson produced a magical performance by hitting 24 dolls for the Queens Head, although he still ended up on the losing side as his Queens side went down 6-4 away at the Cock Inn. Lee managed to hit 4-4-5-5-6 in what looked to be a very close match, with the Cock's Mark Lacey also having a great night with 19 dolls. The Black Prince A continued to inch themselves back into the title chase after having their best week of the season so far, hitting 108 dolls (which actually included a blob in one leg - I won't say who) on route to a 10-0 away win over Hanborough Sports. The match had three different players hitting a maximum, with Kevin Burnham hitting his in the final leg for Hanborough and Phil Austin & Jon Townsend both hitting a maximum in the second leg for the Prince. There was a very close match between the Black Prince B and the Three Horseshoes, which went the full distance. With the scores tied at 4-4, a last leg decider was needed to try and separate the sides. However, this leg also ended in a tie, after the Prince set 20 and the Shoes also ended on 20. Mark Poulter claimed his first maximum of the season for the Prince in what must have been a tight match to play in.

Draws were also the order of the day in the Lower Sections, as three of the four matches ended 5-5! The George & Dragon B won the last leg to share the points with the Masons Arms B, the Woodstock SC won their final leg to tie with the Red Lion and finally the George & Dragon A claimed the last leg to tie with the Oxford Yeoman A. The top performance was by Chris Stewart of the George & Dragon B, who led the way with an impressive score of 18 dolls

BTW, it was Mick Phipps!! :)

WEEK 13 - 18th JULY

If last week was all about the draw, this week was all about the away win. The Oxford Yeoman A were the only side in the Lower Sections to pick a home victory after defeating the Woodman 6-4. All the other matches played ended in away wins. The George & Dragon B were particularly impressive as they had their best night of the season so far, hitting 83 dolls on route to securing a 6-4 win over the Fox. Dave Gardiner was the star man for the George after hitting a fantastic 19 dolls. Ray Townsend was also in good form for the Red Lion after hitting 17 dolls to help his side pick up 7-3 away win over the George & Dragon A. The Swan won a last leg shootout to pick up a great 6-4 away win over the Woodstock SC, whilst the Masons Arms B eased to a 8-2 away win over Stonesfield Sports.

The Top Sections star performer can only be one man, who flexed his muscles just when his side needed him. It was in the final leg of the match, with the scores tied 4-4, so all to play for. Step forward Chadlington's very own big game palyer Keith Morely, who clanged off a 5 to help his side set a massive 23 dolls, which proved more than enough to defeat Hanborough Sports and take the match 6-4 and keep Chad's title dreams very much alive. Speaking of title dreams, the Masons Arms A put a big dent in the hopes of the Black Prince B after defeating them 8-2 at home, which means that the gap between the top and the bottom of the Premier table is getting smaller every week. Think there are some twists to go in this tale yet. Section One can only be described as a brawl at the moment, with a different side taking over at the top of the table every week. If I was a betting man, I'd probably keep my money in my pocket as any of the sides could put a run together to take the crown. I really do look forward to seeing the cards every week to see what new twists have happened! Good luck to all teams and players involved in what looks like being the tightest Section in our history.

One piece of admin to pass over is regarding postponed fixtures. So far, I have correctly been informed in good time about these matches, which has been great. Can I just remind you that a new date for these matches needs to be arranged as soon as possible please. These matches should be played within one month of the original date, AS PER RULE 3 IN OUR RULES! Can all teams invloved keep me posted with this please

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS:

WEEK 9 - 20th JUNE

There was a clear standout performance in week 9, which was by the Queens Head. Even though they were the home side, they could only field five players as they hosted the Three Horseshoes, and they also were giving away a one doll handicap start. Despite all of this, the Queens side were on fire as they racked up their highest amount of dolls in the season so far to pick up a fantastic 9-1 victory. Lee Thompson & Jeff Glenister both came in with 20 dolls, with Jeff also hitting a maximum. They were helped out by great performances by teammates Chuck Berry, Dick Smith & Rob Brown. Enstone Sports picked up their bigest win of the season so far after winning 8-2 at home against the Oxford Yeoman B. It was easily Enstone's best performance of the season, with all the team scoring dolls at important times.

There was a massive result in the hunt for the Section Two title after the Masons Arms B hammered rivals the Red Lion 10-0 at home. It was a great team effort by the Masons, which has allowed them to take control of the table at the moment, although there is obviously still plenty of time for the Red Lion to find their form again and close the gap. There was only a single doll scored to seperate the George & Dragon A and the Woodman totals, but the timing was all important as the Woodman ran out 7-3 winners, although this stat was not helped but the lowly opening set of 3 dolls by the George in the first leg. The beers obviously hadn't kicked in yet chaps!!

WEEK 10 - 27th JUNE

It was the Swan that collected the surprise result this week after they defeated the Red Lion 6-4 at home. The match was tied 4-4 going into the final leg, which saw the Swan hold their nerve to take this leg 13-10 to secure the victory. To make matters worse for the Lion, both of their title rivals picked up wins, with the George & Dragon B beating the Oxford Yeoman A 6-4 and also the Masons Arms beating the Woodman 9-1. The Fox extended their lead at the top of Section Three after winning 7-3 at home over the Elm Tree, and they look like the side to catch.

Chadlington Sports picked up yet another big win, this time 8-2 away at the Cock Inn. The Chadlington boys are still the only unbeaten side out of all our sections, and will hope their good form continues as the second half of the season gets underway. The race for the Section One title looks like being the closest one for many a year, with only 7 points between top and bottom. Top this week are Hanborough Sports, who picked up a 6-4 home win over Enstone Sports. Kevin Burnham was the star performer for Hanborough, as he hit 19 dolls which included a maximum in the third leg. Finally, there was a league & cup double-header between the Black Prince B and the Queens Head. It was the Prince that came out on top after winning 6-4, meaning that they advance to the next round of the cup and remain right in the mix for the Premier title.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS:

Sorry for the lack of weekly reports recently teams. New job has had to take priority over Aunt Sally I'm afraid!! Here are some of the highlights from the past few weeks:

Week 8 - 13th June

There was a stunning performance this week by the Oxford Yeoman A, who recorded a massive 10-0 away win over the Red Lion. The highlight of this win was in second leg, in which the Lion posted a big set of 16. However, this proved to be not enough, as the Yeoman anchor man Henry Smith whipped off the 3 dolls required to take the leg 17-16. George French was in great form for the Yeoman, hitting a personal best score of 19 dolls as lead off man. James Bateman was also a player in fine form as his 17 dolls helped the George & Dragon B win 6-4 away at Stonesfield Sports. It was a tight match which went the distance, with the George taking the deciding leg to secure the victory. There was a rare score draw between the Swan and the Elm Tree, who tied 5-5. The Swan did well to hold their nerve as they won the final leg of the match to take a share of the spoils.

The first battle of the Prince resulted in the Prince A finally hitting some good form to pick up a 6-4 win and end the Prince B's undefeated record in a high scoring match. The Prince A hit their first 100 plus total of the season, scoring 106 dolls over the five legs, with Rob Bradford taking the top scorer award with 22 dolls. Mick Phipps & Dick Walsh recorded maximums for the Prince A, who will hope this is the begining of a much needed run of good performances to climb the table. Elsewhere, there were two last leg deciders, which saw narrow 6-4 wins for both Chadlington Sports and also Hanborough Sports. Ray Grant hit his first maximum of the season to help the Masons Arms A pick up a much needed 6-4 home win over the Queens Head. Charlie Buckingham was the Masons top scorer with 20 dolls, but it was Lee Thompson who was the match top scorer with an impressive 21 doll haul

Week 7 - 6th June

This week saw a big upset, as the Elm Tree found some good form to hammer the Red Lion 8-2 at home, which was the Lion's first defeat of the season. There was some good scoring by the Elm Tree players, in particular Ray Barson, who came in with an impressive 18 dolls. This result allowed the Masons Arms B to get themselves right in the mix at the top of Section Two, as they picked up a 8-2 home win over the Oxford Yeoman A, which was also the Yeoman's first defeat of the season. Adolfo Kerpache was in fine form for the Masons, hitting a maximum in the 2nd on route to scoring 16 dolls.

Chadlington Sports continued their fine form this season as they racked up a mighty 114 dolls gross as they brushed aside the Queens Head 10-0 away from home. You had to feel sorry for the Queens side, who played really well all evening, but with Chad's lowest leg total being 21, they were just up against a side in fantastic form. Another side in great form were the Three Horseshoes, who recorded a very impressive 8-2 away win over the Black Prince A. The tone was set in the opening leg of the match, with the Shoes posting a mighty set of 23, which included a 6 by Alex Chamberlain. The Prince's chase was in vain, even though both Dick Walsh & Jon Townsend hit maximums. Sean Barefield & Alex Chamberlain both had excellent nights for the Shoes after hitting 20 dolls each.

Week 6 - 30th May

Star performers this week were without doubt the Cock Inn, who racked up 104 dolls gross to defeat the Oxford Yeoman B 8-2 at home. It was a fantastic performance by the Cock side, with a card that contained only three scores of 1, so the Yeoman should actually be quite pleased that they managed to take a couple points on the night. Aaron Aitkin was the top scorer with a great 18 dolls. Enstone Sports picked up their first win of the season after beating the Three Horseshoes 6-4 away from home. Enstone are proving yet again how difficult a side they are to beat, and have been unlucky on more than one occasion this season to secure a victory, so I'm sure they were delighted to finally get their first win out of the way. There was a very strange low scoring match between the Masons Arms A & Chadlington Sports, which ended with Chad picking up an 8-2 away win. Considering the quality of the players involved, it was bizarre to see so many people hit scores below their average, with Chad captain Richard Johnson probably being the only player content with his performance as he hit 18 dolls, which included a maximum in the 2nd leg.

There were a couple of good away wins in the lower sections, with the George & Dragon B defeating the Woodman 7-3, and the Fox defeating the George & Dragon 8-2.

Week 5 - 23rd May

This week saw the first major local derby of the season, with the George & Dragon A & B sides playing eachother. It turned out that the A side claimed the bragging rights after producing their best performance of the season to win 8-2. I'm sure that the celebrations were nice and quiet in the bar afterwards! The Masons Arms B were in fine form as they hit 64 dolls and defeated the Elm Tree 8-2 at home, with captain Mark Bennett performing well again with 18 dolls. There was a great comeback by the Woodstock SC, as they came back from being 5-1 down after 3 legs to secure a 5-5 draw away at the Fox, which included a mighty score of 19 in the fourth leg.

Chadlington Sports had another good night as they picked up a 5-5 draw away at the Black Prince A. The Prince were in debt to anchor man Keith Powell for saving them in more than one leg after a fine display of pressure hitting, which included hitting a 4 to draw in the final leg. The Chad boys were on fire all evening, with Richard Johnson, Kevin Drinkwater & Freddie Moreton all hitting maximums (Richard's and Kevin's were in the same leg!). Dick Walsh was the leagues top scorer for the week with 20 dolls, although it wasn't enough to help the Prince to pick up a much needed win. The Queens Head picked up their first win of the season after defeating Enstone Sports 8-2 and will hope that they have turned the corner and can start to move up the table.

Week 4 - 16th May

There was a league/cup double header played this week, with Chadlington Sports hosting Enstone Sports in the scheduled league match, which was also counted as their Knockout Cup Preliminary match. The match turned out to be a nail biting affair! Chadlington held a narrow 4-2 lead after 3 legs, and with the 4th leg being tied on 17 each, it meant that Enstone needed to win the final leg to extend the match. Enstone set a total of 13, to which Chad fell just short with a total of 12. So the league match eneded in a 5-5 draw, but a good old fashioned three sticker was required to decide who advanced in the cup. Enstone set 5 in the three stick playoff, which Chad would of been confident of beating, but a run of blobs meant that they couldn't match that set, meaning Enstone went through to the next round. The only maximum of the week was hit by Jeff Glenister for the Queens Head, although it didn't stop the Queens going down to a 8-2 home defeat to Hanborough Sports.

The Red Lion were again on form in Section Two, hitting 66 dolls on the way to picking up a 6-4 home win over the Woodman, and there was a rare 5-5 draw between the George & Dragon A and the Swan, which saw the Swan take the deciding leg to pick up a share of the points.

WEEKLY REPORT:

NO CARD RECEIVED!! SWAN V WOODSTOCK SC - NAMED & SHAMED!

Week three arrived, and brought the rain with it! Hopefully you all managed to get your matches played before the heavens opened!

Starting off in the Top Sections, and it was the Oxford Yeoman B that recorded this season's first 10-0 whitewash after defeating a weakened Queens Head side. It was a really strong team effort by the Yeoman, with Martin Few & Dave Trim both coming in with 16 dolls. It's been a difficult start to the season for the Queens, but we all know how good they can be, so keep an eye for when they take revenge on someone! There was another big result in the Premier section, with the Black Prince B taking out the Masons Arms A 8-2. The Prince B racked up an impressive 90 dolls, which any side would have struggled to match. Charlie Buckingham was in stunning form for the Masons, hitting 5,4,5,5,5 to total a mighty 24 dolls. For the Prince B, Henry Johnson recorded his first 6 of the season in the middle of his 19 doll total, but the star of the show for the Prince had to be Adie Cooper, who came in with a personal best score of 18 dolls. Well done Adie. Chadlington Sports maintained their position at the top of the table after a great 8-2 away win over Hanborough Sports. Hanborough actually won the opening leg, before Chad hit back to win all of the remaining legs to secure another win. The Cock Inn were yet another team in fine form after they won 9-1 at home against the Three Horseshoes. The Cock hit 80 dolls in total, with all the players scoring good amounts of dolls. Alex Chamberlain was again the Shoes top scorer with 17 dolls. The final match in the Top Sections saw the Black Prince A come back from being 3-1 behind to pick up an important 7-3 away win over Enstone Sports. Phil Austin was the top scorer for the Prince A with 19 dolls, which included a 6 in the 4th leg.

In the Lower Sections, the George & Dragon B secured their first win of the season after defeating the Fox Inn 6-4 at home. The George might actually be slightly disappointed by this result as they were leading 6-0 after three legs, but the Fox managed to hang on and pick up what could prove to be some crucial points. The Masons Arms B flexed their muscles to pick up a 8-2 home win over Stonesfield Sports. Captain and lead off man Mark Bennett was in great form for the Masons B, hitting 18 dolls to be the Section Two weekly top scorer. The Red Lion made it 3 wins out of 3 to stay at the top of Section Two after beating the George & Dragon A 6-4, with Ray Townsend again top scoring for the Lion with 15 dolls. The final match to report on (hint hint Swan/Woodstock SC) saw a 5-5 score draw between the Woodman and the Oxford Yeoman A. It was a great fightback by the Woodman, as the Yeoman were leading 5-1 after 3 legs.

That's it for this week. The next website update will be done this coming Sunday, the 19th, so please try and get this weeks cards to me by then

WEEKLY REPORT:

Week two's action again showed how tight the season is going to be, with some very interesting results coming in.

Starting off in the Lower Sections, and there was a fantastic individual performance by the Red Lion's Ray Townsend, who top scored in the league with a fantastic 21 dolls, which included a 6 in the second leg. Woodstock SC were the unlucky side to be on the receiving end of Ray's fine form, as he starred in a 8-2 away win for the Lion. Neil Morton also hit a maximum, as the Lion hit an impressive 73 dolls to strengthen their postion at the top of Section Two. The other two teams in Section Two, the George & Dragon B and Masons Arms B, faced off against each other in what was a very tight game. The game swung one way and then the other, and with the score tied at 4-4 going into the final leg, it was the Masons that nicked this decider to claim a 6-4 away win. There was actually only a single doll between the sides, which shows how close the match was. Aldolfo Kerpache was the star of the show with an excellent 17 dolls. In Section Three, the Oxford Yeoman A took over at the top of the table after defeating the George & Dragon A 7-3 at home. Knowing these two sides, I'm sure Trev's till was kept busy by the thirsty boys! George French was on good form in the middle of the batting order for the Yeoman, top scoring with 13 dolls. There was another close match between the Elm Tree & the Woodman, in which the final two legs both ended in draws, which was just enough to see the Woodman pick up a 6-4 away win and make it two wins out of two. The final match saw a big home win for the Fox, who defeated the Swan 9-1, although two of the legs were won by just a single doll.

Moving into the Top Sections, and from looking at the cards, all the matches were very close. Chadlington Sports moved a point clear at the top of the Premier Section after winning at home 7-3 against the Oxford Yeoman B. However, it could of been a different outcome as the Yeoman only lost the final leg by a single doll, so were very close to gaining a draw. Chadlington's Richard Johnson (16 dolls) & Kevin Drinkwater (15 dolls) carried on from where they left off last week with another good night's work. The Queens Head hosted old rivals the Cock Inn, and although there was only a single doll that seperated the two sides, it was the Cock Inn that came away with a 7-3 away win. Jeff Glenister can count himself unlucky to finish on the losing side after hitting 18 dolls. The Masons Arms A won a close match 6-4 at home against Enstone Sports, with two of the legs ending in draws, meaning the result could of quite easily gone the other way. Charlie Buckingham hit what will be his first of many maximum's of the season on route to a good 18 dolls. The Black Prince A picked up their first win of the season after defeating Hanborough Sports 6-4, with Dick Walsh finding top form to hit 20 dolls, including a 6 in the final leg. Hanborough battled hard right until the end, and will be pleased that they easily chased down the Prince's set of 18 dolls in the final leg. The week's final match saw the Black Prince B win a last leg decider to secure a 6-4 away win over the Three Horseshoes. The match was tied 4-4 going into the final leg, in which the Shoes set a total of 15 dolls. Captain Bob Hall calmed the Prince's nerves by hitting a 4 in the middle of the chase, which eventually left anchor man Chris Price needing just a single doll to secure the victory.

So that's another week done!

All cards were received by Saturday again, which is just fantastic for me. A couple of cards didn't show who set in each leg, so if I could just remind you to show that by circling the legs then that would be great. It helps me to write my reports if I know who is setting/chasing.

Have a good week all, and lets hope the weather stays dry for week three's action!

WEEKLY REPORT:

So, lets crack on with this then! I'll start my report by thanking everyone for sending the result cards in so quickly! Please keep it up! Win, draw or lose, just take a picture and send it over! Now, on with the action....

Starting things off in the upper sections, the new handicap's already look as though they have leveled the playing field without making things too easy! There were two Premier sides who recorded the biggest margin of victory, but it's probably not the two that you would expect! Chadlington SSC marked their return to the top division by recording a 7-3 home victory over the Cock Inn.There was some good shooting by the Chadlington boys, with Richard Johnson becoming the first player in our league this season to hit the 20 doll mark, and Kevin Drinkwater impressing with 16 dolls. The Black Prince B also picked up a 7-3 win, which was away at the Queens Head. The Prince started strongly, winning the opening 3 legs, before the Queens fought back to finish the match with a draw and a win. Lee Thompson was the match top dog with a fine 19 dolls. The Three Horsehoes produced a great comeback in thier first match back in the upper sections to gain a 5-5 draw at home against the Masons Arms A. The Shoes lost the first 2 legs, before hitting back to take legs 3 & 4, meaning a last leg shootout was required. The Shoes set a solid total of 16 in this final leg, which the Masons anchor man Charlie Buckingham just managed to tie after hitting a 3 to secure the match finished all square. Alex Chamberlain got his season off to a flyer with a great 18 dolls. Last years Premier winners the Black Prince A suffered a shock 6-4 home defeat at the hands of the Oxford Yeoman B. The writing was on the wall for the Prince in the opening leg, in which they could only tie the Yeoman's modest set of 13 dolls. Take nothing away from the Yeoman, they produced a very good performance and hit 72 dolls, with everyone in the team scoring important dolls at crucial times. If they can maintain this level they will be a team to keep an eye on. Alan Major led the way for the Yeoman with 16 dolls, but the match top scorers were Jon Townsend & Darren Grant, who both came in with 17 dolls. The final match in the upper sections went to a last leg decider, with Enstone SSC needing a win to tie thier match against Hanborough SSC. It was Hanborough that set a total of 17 dolls, which looked to be in trouble before a very rare failure from George Williams saw the Enstone chaps only manage to tie the 17, meaning that Hanborough picked up the win 6-4. Kevin Burnham was the match top scorer with 15 dolls, but the biggest honour goes out to Martin Blake, who can proudly state that he was the first person this season to hit a 6 in our league! Well done Martin, I hope you called the last one off in the air!!

Moving into the lower sections, and it is league newbies the Swan who had the biggest smiles on their faces after winning their first ever match, defeating a strong looking George & Dragon B side 6-4 at home. The George easily won the first 2 legs, before the Swan hit back to win the remaining legs, with the deciding last leg won by just a single doll. Well done to the Swan team, and I hope you enjoyed your first night of action. I'm sure Gordon treated you all to a victory beer afterwards! Dave Gardener put down an early marker for the George, coming in with a great 17 dolls. The other new side (of sorts), the Woodman, also picked up a win after defeating Stonesfield SSC 8-2 at home. It's nice to see the Woodman returning to action in our league after taking a break last year, and I'm sure they will be very pleased after this win. The only other new side, Woodstock SC, didn't fair quite so well, with the Oxford Yeoman A handing out a 8-2 home win. Could this year finally be the year that the Yeoman stay the distance and reach their potential? Joe Langford was the match top scorer for the Yeoman, hitting a solid 14 dolls. There was a tight match between two sides looking to challenge at the top of their respective divisions, with the Red Lion hosting the Fox. It was the Fox that held a 4-2 lead after 3 legs, before the Lion hit back to win the final 2 legs and take the victory 6-4. Ray Townsend marked his first night of Wychwood action for many years by hitting an impressive 18 dolls. The evenings final action saw the Elm Tree pick up a good 7-3 win over the George & Dragon A, with Ray Barson top scoring at anchor with 13 dolls

That's my lot for this week.
