CANCELLED & POSTPONED FIXTURES...

Just to clarify the process, if you need to postpone a match, you must:

1.Inform the captain or venue of your opponents, ideally at least 24 hours before the match is due to take place

2.Inform the Fixture Secretary

The postponed match should be replayed within 2 weeks of the original fixture date. Don't forget, you can bring fixtures forwards if required. For example, if you know that half your team is going on holiday at the same time, why not play the fixture before they go?

Contact information for each team can be found on this website

THE 2025 SEASON IS UP & RUNNING...

Just a quick reminder to all teams & captains - only registered players can play!!!

You MUST let me know if you want to make additional signings

At a minimum a text message will do, but it MUST before a new player takes part

Be warned, if I see a player on a card that isn't signed on then that will be a breach of the rules (Please see below the two key rules)

16. A player can sign and play for one team only.  A player is considered registered if he is included in the team list of players for a particular team and then plays for this team.  Any new players must be notified to the Fixture Secretary prior to their participation in either a League or Cup Matches. Disciplinary action will be taken against teams who fail to abide by this rule.  Registration of players closes on 1st July 2025. Any requests for transfers must be in writing to the Secretary by the player and Captain concerned giving good reason for change. The Committee may amend a team's handicap from the date the new player is registered or transferred.

23. Any teams in breach of the above rules will be issued with a verbal warning at first, followed by a final written warning. Any further breaches will result in expulsion from the league.

And if anyone spots any spelling mistakes with players name's, please let me know so that I can correct them.

Thanks all

REPORT

After the original staging of this competition was a complete washout, the rearranged event was held indoors at Eynsham SSC. We are sorry to those who couldn't make this new date, but it was always going to be impossible to please everyone. The event turned out to be great afternoon, and it was great to see so many players there. There is no way I can report on all the matches, so let me just fire away with a few standout mentions

- Marcus Reading, who as anchorman for the Eynsham SSC A side hit a 5 in the second leg to win the leg and the match against one of the White House B sides

- The other White House B side managed to post a mighty set of 20 dolls in their first leg of the event after waiting for nearly 2hrs to throw

- Steve Arthurs & Neil Lyon for hitting maximums on the day

- Enstone B, who were up against it when playing in their semi final against Eynsham SSC A. They managed to set 16 in the deciding leg which proved enough to send them through to finals night

Think that will do. Well done to all that gave up their time on a Sunday afternoon. It was good fun, so there are worst ways to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Cheers all

REPORT

The 2024 season came to a fitting close at finals night, with a packed out Eynsham social club witnessing another night of great entertainment. It was great to see so many faces in attendance. Lets see if I can do it justice in my report...

The evening kicked off with the Supplementary Cup Final, which was between last year's winners the White House A and Stonesfield SSC B, who were making their first appearance at a finals night. This was an extremely close match which ended up with a last leg decider to see who claim the trophy. Stoney started the match well by setting a solid 15 dolls, which the White House failed to chase. The White House then set 12 dolls in leg two, which proved to be enough to level the scores. Back to Stoney to set in leg three, and their 13 dolls was enough to put them 4-2 up on the night. Knowing that they couldn't afford to lose, the White House put an excellent set of 17 dolls on the board in the fourth leg, which Stoney fell just one doll short of chasing. So, with the scores level at 4-4, a last leg shootout was required. The White House won the toss and set, but could only manage an average total of 12 dolls. Game on! The Stoney team managed to keep ticking the score along, and left anchorman & captain Dave Holloway needing one to tie, two to win. Dave held his nerve and knocked off those two required to win the leg and in turn win the match, meaning that his Stoney side picked up their first ever trophy.

The next match played was the Four-a-Side Final, which was between the White House B & Enstone SSC B. On paper, this looked like it would be a close affair, and it certainly was. The White House took the opening leg 11-10, before Enstone hit back to take leg two 15-11. The White House won the toss and decided to set in the deciding leg, but could only manage a set of 11. Enstone never looked like they would fail to chase this down, and it was left to anchorman Trevor Dyer to knock off the winning doll to secure the win for his team.

We then moved onto the Triples Final, again held between the White House B & Enstone SSC B (Although it was the all the same players involved). This was an extremely close match, and the only match on the night which required a three stick playoff. The opening leg of the match was tied 10-10, before the White House moved ahead by easily winning leg two after a good set on 12 dolls. Knowing that only a leg win would do, Enstone posted 10 dolls, which proved to just be enough as the White House fell one doll short in their chase. So, a three sticker was required. Enstone set in this but could only manage 4 dolls between them, which the White House managed to pass to take the trophy.

Next up was the highly anticipated Sixers Cup. So often a highlight of finals night, and with the lineup this year being made up of fantastic players, this lived up to the billing as the crowd were treated to some excellent throwing. After four legs of throwing, it was Steve Arthurs & Steve England who were left to battle it out to see who would take the crown. With Steve Arthurs going first, he clanged off a five (his third of the match) to set the marker at a total of 23 dolls. This left Steve England needing four to win, and he duly completed this by hitting a five to end up on a very impressive 25 dolls (which included the evenings first maximum in the third leg). A worthy winner which capped off an excellent season, it a pleasure to see him perform at such a consistantly high level.

We then moved onto the Singles Semi-Finals, which is another of our Wychwood traditions to hold these matches on finals night. The first of these was a mouth watering fixture between Roger Goodall & Steve Arthurs. I expected something special, and this is exactly what happened as Steve produced a stunning performance to set maximums in consecutive legs to take the match and move into the final. The second semi-final was between two previous Singles winners, being Charlie Buckingham & Keith Powell. This again looked too close to call before a stick was thrown, with both players knowing how to perform on the 'big' stage. It was Charlie who took this one, winning 2-0 to take his place in the final against Steve.

It was then time to move onto the Knockout Cup Final, which saw the White House B face rivals Enstone SSC B yet again. With the Premier title in the bag, this was Enstone's chance to complete a league & cup double, whilst the White House were looking to end what was a generally disappointing season with some silverware. The White House set in the opening leg and posted a score of 18 dolls. Enstone passed this with ease, hitting 19 with a player to go. It was then Enstone's turn to set, and they continued where they left off in the previous leg to post a massive 27 dolls. The White House couldn't get near this, meaning that Enstone moved into a commanding 4-0 lead. Enstone set again in the third leg and posted 21 dolls (which included a maximum from Steve Arthurs, his third of the evening....so far). This time the White House did managed to perform, with anchorman Dick Walsh hitting the one required to win the leg. However, their hopes of an unlikely comeback were short lived. They could only post 18 dolls in this fourth leg, which Enstone managed to get past after achorman Steve Arthurs hit the three required to win the leg & the match, and round off a very impressive season for his Enstone side. Congratulations to them on their double, they certainly deserved it.

The penultimate match of the night was the Pairs Final, which saw last years winners Roger Goodall & Neil Lyon looking to retain their trophy against Steve Arthurs & Dave Oliveri. It was Steve & Dave who set in both legs, and both times they posted a score of 7 dolls (yep, this included a maximum from Steve Arthurs, his fourth of the evening....so far!). However, these set's of 7 were not enough as Roger & Neil managed to chase and pass this on both occasions, meaning that they successfully retained their trophy. Well done chaps, good work.

Last of all, and as tradition demands, we ended the action with the Singles Final, which was between Steve Arthurs & Charlie Buckingham. The question was could Steve keep up the excellent level of scoring that he had been producing all evening? The answer was certainly yes. After hitting the four required to win the opening leg, he then hit a maximum when setting in the second leg (Have you been keeping count? this was Steve's fifth maximum of the night - wowsers) which was enough to take the match and to claim the Singles for the first time. It was a superb display of throwing by Steve and he was well deserved winner of the trophy. Very well done Steve.

And that is that! It was a great night with some excellent throwing in some very entertaining matches.
